Biggest Career Meltdowns

by Royal Rother » 10 Jan 2013 21:01

Which players have had it all then suddenly fallen off a cliff? And why?

Like Lee Sharpe for instance. Dodgy knees whilst at Leeds didn't help but his fall from the absolute top flight was pretty spectacular.

3 years ago Wesley Sneijder was looked at as being one of the best players in the world but seems to be going downhill pretty quickly. Galatasaray are hardly small-fry but they're not exactly Real Madrid or Man Utd.

Stan Collymore?

Nii Lamptey?

Tomas Brolin?

I wouldn't say Sneijder is having a meltdown - he's had injuries this season but his club have refused to play him due to contract wranglings.

Alan Smith - £6m United striker to MK Dons midfielder in 6 years.

And Michael Ricketts took just over 4 years to go from an England debut to being released by Southend for being too fat.

Chris Eagles was never going to make it.

Alan Smith had a horrible injury which he never came back from.

Gazza. From the highs of number 2 in the uk charts singing fog on the tyne to the low of wanting to give chicken and beer to Raoul Moat.

Simon's Church Adriano

Favourite Adriano story was when he had a bust up with his girlfriend he is reported to have paid some unpleasant folk to kidnap her and tie her to a tree in the woods all night to teach her a lesson. She'll never do that (whatever it was she did) again.

The oft discussed James Lambert is the only ex RFC player I can think of who qualifies, albeit in a less significant way than most of the aforementioned.
