If you are able to bet on such games as Bashley vs Totton and the like this should come as no great surprise. Only surprise it's taken this long for arrests to be made.

Reading the news story again it's a bit confusing. He maybe saying its £70k min in England, but I'm not sure what the £7k figure is all about.

It wont be bets placed with bookmakers in this country though, or the exchanges. You simply would be able to bet enough to make a £70k bribe worthwhile. Its all illegal betting in Asia.

I have read that it was Hereford and Accrington, but also that it was in the Conference. If both are true, then it can't have been any more recently than 2005-06. Someone in a senior job at Accrington got banned for betting offences recently and a couple of their players from around the time they were in the Conference have already served long gambling-related bans - Andy Mangan (now Forest Green) and Jay Harris (Wrexham).

The Met have just arrested a 7th person in connection with this enquiry; he is accused of receiving vast amounts of money to ensure his team failed to score any goals.

Hmm, Delroy Facey is the cousin of my colleague's husband. Just sent her off to do some snooping. She's more concerned about why they weren't ITK if there was money to be made from betting than any scandal.

Surely any kind of sizeable bet/betting pattern on non-league football would immediately be seen as iffy?

Very hard to see how you could fix any football game other than via the referee, which isn't even hinted at here, or maybe a keeper. Cricket OTOH could have been invented for betting scams.

I can confirm that I'm officially not ITK, colleague's husband is pleading ignorance. The only thing i can add is a bit of character assassination, not many in the family speak to Delroy much because he's a knob. His brother is nice though.

You can bet on pretty much everything though (player to be booked/sent off etc) - you don't necessarily need to fix the result
