Jamie Cureton in praise of

by teignmouth hoops » 28 Apr 2015 14:10

It's now 12 long years since Curo left us, I don't know if any one has looked at his record for the last 3 seasons(albeit in Div2, where we are heading at present)
12/13 App - Exeter 40- Goals 21
13/14 App - Cheltenham 35- Goals 11
14/15 App- Dagenham 44 Goals 18

Totals 119 & 50 goals

This for a man who will be 40 in the summer, I've watched a fair chunk of these goals on MOD & Soccer AM and he is still quality.
Obviously i'm not saying he should be playing in the championship but think he could have done a better job than our highly expensive
forward line who without Murrays goals didn't get to 18 between them, and he still cares and has passion for the game (which I think is why he has carried on so long)

Sign him up, he can't be much less mobile than Pog.

I'll readily join in with the praise.
A bargain wherever he has been (apart from a short stay at Bournemouth early on).
Love the little fella and always felt (as with Le Fondre) that with the right manager and the right service he could have scored goals at the top level but his career unfortunately leaves him just as the lower divisions' version of Defoe when he could have done better.

The wee fella is just a natural goalscorer 795 games, 278 goals and still some left in the tank, he is one of my all time heroes that have graced the Royals shirt, if, hopefully, in time he decides to go into coaching and can pass is scoring knowledge on to young players what a snip he would be especially in youth development of strikers.

He is the Ryan Giggs of lower league football. He as out pacing defenders half his age on the FL show. Legend.

Saw him do that just a couple of weeks ago when Dagenham won at Newport. He was interviewed pitchside at the Conference playoff game last night and he looks in incredible shape for his age, I remember him being a bit chubby.

He's as natural a finisher you'll find anywhere. Even at 40 I'd throw a one year deal at him to play a bit part next season. The chances we've fluffed in the box this season, he'd have lapped them up. Le Fondre wasn't too disimilar. Such a shame he was sold in place of the unshiftable Pogrebnyak.

My favourite Reading player of all-time. You can't get much higher praise than that.
