New Stadiums

by Coppelled Streets » 31 Mar 2008 17:06

Colchester's Cuckoo Farm is coming along nicely ready for their 2008/09 League 1 Championship winning season.

Very similar to Bournemouth's but with a hint of class about it.

Sometimes you have to take a step back to take a step forward and that ground will give that football club a real chance to progress and continue to build.

Now, where are Brighton with their new stadium? Did that finally get the go-ahead? Have they started building?

Very impressive main stand and all in all nice looking stadium. Bit different to the bog standard bowl. To nice for Brighton and Hove Albion though.

Cardiff's new stadium is also coming along. *spits*

Naff design. The typical bowl with their corner not really filled in but the very back of the corner stands do link up for a few rows.
The roof is high above the stand like Coventry's.

Apart from a very long winded video on their scummy website, there isn't much in the way of pictures to show.

Any others going up at the moment or plans submitted for?

Don't think so yet - they had a problem where the cost of steel has increased the overall cost and so they have to either cut back capacity or raise extra funds. Not a show-stopper, though, just a delay.

That looks far too small for Brighton, they could do with about 4 tiers all the way round.

Cardiff have set up a dedicated website for their new stadium.

Rotherham are investigating moving to the Don Valley Stadium as a way of easing the debts they have.

Liverpool are due to start work on the new stadium shortly, though funding is still unclear.

Fulham have recieved planning permission to extend Craven Cottage, with work due to start in the summer.

Watford are due to begin work on Vicaridge Road shortly.

Can't recommend enough the Football Ground Guide message board for regular updates.

Preston's new stand is close to completion although I can't find any pictures but it's supposed to be 4,500 capacity taking the overall capacity to about 24,000.

We're getting one soon, we'll probably ground share with Wembley and then move to a 90k stadia to accomodate Italy.

You're right to be excited.

QUEENS PARK RANGERS are hoping to move to a new stadium in a bid to facilitate their Premiership dreams. Speaking exclusively to The League Paper, R's chairman Gianni Paladini has outlined his hopes for the future of the club.

Rangers will build a 36,000 all-seater stadium, which will keep the team playing within the Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham. They will not move from Loftus Road until the new site is completed.
The freehold of the new arena will be owned by QPR and the whole project will be financed by the developers. Plans include the possibility of a hotel, leisure and shopping complex, plus underground parking for 1,500 cars.

The financial package could also help Rangers pay off their debts - which mainly revolve around a £10 million loan from the ABC Corporation.

Paladini said:" I have asked our now-retired former sales and marketing director Brian Rowe to head a small team to carry out a feasibility study. They have started this work over the past few days.

" Everyone at Rangers loves Loftus Road. It is a unique ground with a special atmosphere. But we have to be honest with ourselves and admit that the current 18,200 capacity is simply not big enough if we are to realise our future aspirations.

" We are very ambitious here. It is 10 seasons now since QPR were in the Premiership. We want to gain promotion and get back to where we belong. And once we return to the Premier League, we want to stay there and become a force.

I think that's a bit old as its been nearly 12 years since we got relegated  .

We're probably buying a section of land on an old BBC site, probably the Blue Peter garden and Sir Les can have an end named after him.

I didn't like going to Loftus Road since being 6 foot tall, there's next to know leg room.

That said it's in a good location, I was temping for Auntie at the time.

And if you're under 6 ft, unless you're in the front row, you can't see the near goal from the top tier.

Very similar to every small ground built these days. Four boring identikit stands without a single ounce of imagination going into the design.

Ever since Walsall asked for a carbon copy of Scunthorpe's ground, we've just seen clubs copying other clubs time after time.

Didn't Liverpool trim £50m off the proposed cost of their new ground by being 'less imaginative'? Lower league clubs have hardly got bottomless buckets of cash. It will be a modern new stadium with up to date facilities and I am sure that is will make Colchester fans happy.
