Great goal.

Surprised by the lack of celebrations from the fans though!

I'd say he knew exactly what he was trying to do.

How often it would actually come off is questionable, and so maybe that's what you mean by luck, but that's a hell of goal.

He's scored a couple of tremendous goals in the past.

Here's one against a well beaten NAC Breda side

That's my fave Ibrahimovic goal - even big fat Ronald Koeman gets his lardarse off the bench to applaud that one.

Yeah, that's precisely what I meant. I didn't mean luck as in "it hit him and went in".

There is no way that he aimed for the top corner. In those situations you just try to get as much on the ball as possible and see what happens.

The people who seem to think it was a great goal are those that don’t play football whilst those of us who appreciate the skill and the luck also are regular players.

The fact that he had the nerve to try it makes it a great goal imo.

He may not have aimed for the top corner but he certainly knew what he was doing......luck, to me, is when you didn't mean to do something

I hear what you're saying re: "great goal" and this is similar to the Zola goal that he scored against Norwich - yes very nice to watch and you think "how the hell did they do that" but are they really "great goals".....to me a great goal involves lots of passing or 1 man taking on the entire team etc.

I once scored an overhead kick in a game. It just sat right, I, somehow, got airborne, hit the ball back across goal and in off the post. I knew what I wanted to do, knew what I was doing but ... good lord ... the odds of me doing that again ... !

I have a lot of time of improvised goals - Ibrahimovic's against Italy 2004, Solano scored a neat goal in a goalmouth scramble a few years back. Like a tap-in but with something extra.

I once scored a diving header from the penalty spot. I vaguely remember (and did at the time) a Carlton Palmer diving headed goal (for England, maybe, I'm not sure), and this was my influence when I launched myself at the ball, ignoring the incoming boots, and headed the ball into the net off the keeper's hands.

I don't think I've ever connected with an overhead, and they are always painful.

That's true - at least from a spectator pov it is because they're more interesting to watch. I get a bit annoyed when I watch these 'goal of the month' competitions and see a load of lucky strikes from halfway down the pitch. I'm sure there must be more skill involved doing it the way TBM describes.

Its when all of the goals are long range efforts.

There are plenty more ways of scoring a good goal.
