Dogs before football supporters

by Dirk Gently » 14 Oct 2008 21:36

.....Cliff is a lifelong Chelsea fan who attended the Chelsea v Queens Park Rangers FA Cup tie on Saturday, January 5, 2008, with his two sons aged 13 and 16.

Following the match one of his son’s friends went into a pub to use the toilet, shortly afterwards the premises were 'locked down' by the police meaning no one could enter or leave.

Whilst asking police if his son’s friend might be permitted to leave the pub, Cliff’s eldest son James was bitten on the leg by a police dog. In an attempt to release his son from the dog’s grip, Cliff kicked the dog and was immediately wrestled to the floor by police officers.

Cliff was taken to the police station where he was charged with causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal.

After complaining that he had sustained numerous injuries, he was eventually taken to hospital where he was told he had four broken ribs and a punctured lung. Emergency surgery was required and Cliff remained in hospital for four days, and subsequently missed six weeks’ work....

Today Cliff was found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal. A public order charge relating to threatening words and behaviour was thrown out. No charges have been brought against any Police.

Certainly do. Which is why I'll always find out the facts before commenting, and this case is exactly as stated.

Bloke talks to police, police dog bites bloke's son, bloke kicks dog, bloke attacked by police and seriously injured, bloke charged.

In that case, :| even more.

I was waiting for a Fruit Pastille-related public disorder story to come out, but alas. I'm surprised that there can be such narrow-mindedness regarding football fans (Chelsea or otherwise) especially considering there was time after the event for the general red mist to die down.

Disappointing all round really.

What is the problem here?

Bloke kicks dog, kicking dog is against the law. Bloke arrested, charged and convicted.

End of.

Nice of you to write off an entire countries emergency service like that. I assume you'll not be phoning them if you're sh*tting your self when someone's burgling your house, or you've just been beaten up, or your car has been stolen?

I love how Ambulance Staff and the Fire Service can do no wrong, but the police is a different matter. Like the fire service spending days lounging around outside the station advertising smoke alarms and the police get criticised for grabbing a coffee and a sandwich between jobs.

It does beg the question: Why did the dog clamp its jaws around the boy's leg? Was it provoked? Was it goaded?

http://www.cfcnet.co.uk/2008/01/08/chel ... brutality/

There seemed to be something happening in the pub as there were many policemen outside stopping people entering or leaving. Unfortunately, my two friends were caught up in the confusion and pushed inside the pub while the other three of us were outside.

Suddenly, I felt a sharp pain in my leg and as I turned around, a police dog was biting my leg. At this point, I was scared and tried to get the dog off of me but its jaws were locked. Eventually, it let go but my Dad kicked the dog to help me escape from it.

In his own words.

I don't think they have much to complain about really.

According to that, the boy has been charged too, for abusive and foul language. He was also beaten up by the police. I imagine he must have said "Get the f*** off me, you nasty dog" and if that was the case, then the Police were over the top.

Well, you posted a full ten minutes after my post without quoting my or Aggro's post, so I assumed you were responding to my post.
