Transfers - summer 09

Daniel Sturridge joins Chelsea on a free.

Sturridge has become the first signing of the Ancelotti regime on a free after Manchester City refused to meet his £55,000-a week wage demands. Chelsea were happy to meet the 19 year olds wage demand having watched him score 4 goals in 16 games last season

So the Ronnie to Real thread wasn't the Ins & Outs thread then.

When your owners have that much money and everyone else is getting paid shit loads, im sure he still would have been one of the low earners!

HuLOLOL agree £6m fee with Manchester United for Fraizer Campbell

United must be creaming their pants over that. Well over priced.

Cannot believe Sturridge went for free, he's a crackin' young talent. Perhaps we could get him on loan as he's unlikely to break into the Chelski first time yet. Big player for the future though.

He went for free cos he was out of contract, but im sure City dont mind as they wont miss the money.

Won't they get something as he's under 23?

Also, I really really hoped the economy would force football to become a bit more realistic wrt wages, it would appear not

Don't see what their problem is really. Milan got a good deal, plus he gave them 6 good years and never asked to leave.

AC Milan are better than Real imo so the reason he has gone there is for money.

Kaka was on €6.1M after tax at AC Milan. To match that Real Madrid will have to pay a weekly salary of €144,000 before tax (23% tax).

Do Real Madrid still take 50% of their players sponsorship money?

my point being:

1. He is already one of the highest earners in world sport.
2. His overall earnings may not move that much (apart from the signing on fee)
