A legend. He will be sorely missed. Football needs people like him more and more. A wonderful example of how to behave.

RIP Sir Bobby

It was nice to see he got to his beloved St James' Park so recently for a charity match:

Sad news. RIP Sir Bobby.

I always think fondly of him. I met him a few years ago with a friend of mine. Whilst SBR was signing an autograph for my mate they exchanged the following:

Mate: can i have an autograph Sir Bobby?
SBR: of course.
Mate: thanks, you must do loads of these!
SBR: yes, hundreds.
mate: thank you.

On inspection of the autograph my mate saw that it read: To Dan, Best Wishes Bobby Hundreds!

God bless Sir Bobby.

That's bad news.

England should never have sacked him after Italia '90.

RIP Sir Bobby... A sad loss to the Game one of the few managers who would try to build a team rather than buy success

Legend, Hero, English football icon in all honesty. Respected worlwide by some of the biggest clubs in world football, a gentelmen who loved the game more than anyone. Will be truly sadly missed.

After the send off that alcoholic wife beater George Best got from this country I hope there is something really significant for Sir Bob. A statue at Wembley would be nice or something along those lines.

Sad news. He'd been very ill for a while, he did well to fight it for as long as he did.

Thaumagurist* That's bad news.

England should never have sacked him after Italia '90.

He'd already signed a contract with PSV prior to Italia 90. He'd have left his England role whatever happened.

Yeah, and he did that because he knew England were going to sack him.

No matter with the small detail.
From what I heard he had an inspirational attitude and had the common touch with players like Ronaldo, Stoichkov, Romario, Lineker etc and football fans alike.

Liked his style, a lot!

What was especially impressive about the SF in Italia '90, was that this was achieved despite all English club teams being banned from European Club competitions since 1985.

His Ipswich team that won the UEFA Cup was a class act. I really wanted them to win the title in '81 but Villa pipped them at the post.

RIP Sir Bobby. A true gentleman is lost and a very sad day indeed.

Certainly agree with that.

Cancer may have got him in the end, but he made it work damn hard for him. How many times was it he fought it off? Two, three? Remarkable.
