If Eduardo is banned...........

And I hope they do too. Absolutely correct that he is punished retrospectively, and I'd welcome UEFA taking a consistently hard line on this.

I totally agree but would you be saying the same if Gerrard dived in a semi final and missed the final?

I'm just saying it opens up something UEFA will have to continue, every dive will have to be punished with a 2 match ban. In the super cup tonight a barca player took a dive in the area, I guess that's a 2 game ban for him too??!

If Arsenal missed the penalty would Eduardo still be punished?

A pity that we will not face Eduardo nor Arsehole this season.

Some could have legitmately (for a change) boo'ed their hearts out for 90 minutes

Uefa have announced, with beautiful timing, that they've banned Arsenal striker Eduardo for two games for diving.

As pointed out on sky sports news yesterday, you only get a 1 match ban for 2 yellow cards and diving in a game is only a yellow card offence - so to get a 2 match ban you'll have to pick up 4 yellow cards but what they've done is slapped a ban on Eduardo for something that is only a yellow card offence!!?

It also means they have to do it to ALL players who dive, surely?

Maybe they're making an example of him. Couldn't happen to a much nicer club.

Thats not the point though Spacey....taking your hatred for the club away, do you agree it is harsh considering the amount of players that dive in the game. Why single out 1 player?

Now, I don't quite see this logic about yellow cards. It is within the power of UEFA to ban anyone for pretty much anything they deem ban-worthy. They deem diving as worth a 2 match ban, then FINE. Don't do it!

And, as a neutral, I think it is something I'd like to see done on a consistently hard line over a whole season. Do it, ignore the whinging in the first two weeks and then see what happens.

From a neutral's perspective, I appreciate a good dive. It's humna nature to push the boundaries of what we get away with, but it's important to hold our hands up if we get caught.

Eduardo's was a good dive; Eboue's against United at the weekend was not.

I don't think so, but you could possibly right.

TBM, I don't think it's harsh. For years, we've had many players do a lot of diving (e.g. Ronaldo) and the suits have been going on about stamping out diving but doing nothing about it. They tried a feeble rule allowing referees to book players if they suspect them of simulation, but referees have too many times bottled out of dishing out a yellow card if they don't think it's a penalty. It's about time they made an example of somebody high profile as if to say to other players - we can do this to you too, if you cheat.

Not disagreeing with that IF they continue to ban everybody that take a dive.....as said before, if it was outside the box or the penalty was missed would he still be getting a 2 match ban?? doubtful.

There must be examples of other things that receive a statutory ban far in excess of what the expected punishment should be.

FWIW, this would only work if they set a real precedent for the rest of the tournament. If they don't then it is incredibly stupid on their part.

He's only been banned because it was brought to the attention of the FA. And his dive lead to a crucial goal which had a big effect on the tie.

As far as Mowbray was making out at the weekend, it had a big effect on McGeady. That would be > on the tie.

Well surely now any dive blown up for by the ref will result in a red card.
