The big six?

If Citeh and/or Spurs can break up the big four cartel who would you like to lose out?

The big six?

by 1960 » 05 Oct 2009 17:38

I think it's great fun that Man City and possibly Spurs are breaking up the big four. A bit early to make assumptions and a pity that Citeh are doing it by money alone, but if the two of them manage to keep it up and end up in the top four it will be a big laugh to see two of the present "big four"struggling to get back there without the Euro money the season or two after. Since Chelsea's emergence into the top four only Everton (once) have ousted a big four team and in that year Liverpool wheedled their way back into the Champions League any way.

Despite Platini's attempts to regulate the money in the game, the Champions' League is designed solely to ensure that the rich clubs get richer, or these clubs would break away to form a European super league. It very difficult to break the virtuous circle of rich clubs getting into the Euro Champs > so get lots of money > so can afford better players > so get into Euro again > so get richer etc.

Now maybe, just maybe, Citeh or Spurs could just creep in there and cast one or two out into the cold. Personally, as a Southerner, I would like Liverpool and Man Utd to be the two to suffer, but you'll all have your own preferences.

Can they do it? Do you want them to? Will you laugh if they do? And if yes to all these who do you want to be the one or two for the chop?

I would say Villa/Everton over Spurs to be honest

More equitable split of money both within the Champions League and between Champions League and UEFA cup.

Seriously.

It makes sense.

In the season Liverpool lost to AC Milan in the final they got more money for being Liverpool than they did in performance related payments.

Er....how do you think Spurs have reached their current elevated status?
Not a single home-grown player and yet City play Richards,Wright-Phillips and Ireland.

As for the general point it is very healthy for our game that it looks no longer a closed shop at the top.
I would just love it if Man Utd were the team to miss out this season and even better if City took their place.
As with Man Utd losing 5 games last season I think the big 4 are all much more vulnerable with Liverpool missing Alonso,Arsenal missing Adebayor,Man Utd badly missing Ronaldo and Chelsea missing Drogba-surely he will get a more severe injury soon and it will probably be more lengthy a spell away from the game as the medical staff won't take the injury seriously.

Yes, they rely hugely on Drogba. And of course he will be pissing off to Africa for a month or so and I don't think the others rely on an African quite so much (maybe Adebayor at Citeh). BTW why is the African Nations not once every four years and in the Euro nations tear? And why not out of the regular season (or is their season diffrenet from the rest of the world?)

The 'rest of the world' do not synchronise their football seasons... Dunno why it's not every four years though.

I think Liverpool are the team to knock off this season.

Which when you consider what's going on there could be pretty series. On a positive it may force Gillett and Hicks to fcuk right off...

Can you class a soccer team in the 'big 6' if they haven't won a league championship for about 20 years?

Liverpool because of the way Benitez alienates players like Keane, Alonso and Crouch.

2 horse battle between Manu and chelsea for the title, so exactly the same - more or less - as its been for the last 5/6 years

Premiership, the best and most exciting league in the world is patently a load of b******s

lol pool beat chelsea home and away last season and finished above chelsea in the league even though both torres and gerrard missed large chunks of it

torres didn't even play at the bridge, so by kes logic gerrard beat chelsea on the bridge at his own, yes he really is that good

chelsea are just a disgusting mercenary club with disgusting mercenary players like cashley cole and worst of all, drogba - the guy is the biggest disgrace in world football

they get away with murder, drogba never punished for his constant diving, terry pushing an apeol nicosia guy in the face at the end of the game and not even booked for it while dikagacoi the fulham player does exactly the same and is sent off

no atmosphere, no style, no dignity, no integrity, no class, if a bomb fell on the bridge it would be an improvement
