Not quite sure what to make of this bet.

I think odds of 1/100 are good about a team holding on to a 4 0 nil lead with 11 mins left. In that respect its a good bet, i cant ever recall that happening before in a professional game, the odds were prob more like 1/1000.

But, you have to be pretty daft to wager your entire funds on it. Thats just idiocy.

Hi. Erm, I don't know what to say really.

I guess I'll start with the truth, this was meant as a joke between myself and a certain member (!) on FM-View, I wasn't about much yesterday - believe it or not students do have to work - but come on today to see 135,000 views on this thread, facebook pages, mentions on radio shows and emails from The Sun wanting my story. I am beginning to think I should have placed this bet, I'd be in profit with the donations as well... :tumbleweed:

Nah in all seriousness, I haven't lost or gained a penny, I haven't ever bet on the Africa Cup of Nations and don't wish to start now. The joke started on MSN with myself and another member when we saw it was 4-0 and I jokingly said about going all in on it, when it finished 4-4 I couldn't resist posting up that fake screenshot that was on the Betfair forums (also fake) about 20 minutes before I posted here.

Sorry people, but there's no big story here, just a joke that's spread like wildfire while I've been away. Seemingly killed the server too? Apologies admin. A donation fund, however much I'd appreciate it, won't be necessary, despite the kind words of some people. I'm sure you would've raised that £440 £44 I was desperately chasing with ease!

Must admit, this thread has some comedy replies though.

A very similar thing happened at Port Vale v QPR a few years back, IIRC - might have been 13 minutes remaining though.

My memory tells me this was 4-0 or 4-1 without long to go but it could easily be flawed.

4-1 with 12 mins to go.

carling.com 1) ASTON VILLA vs LEICESTER CITY - 22nd February 1995

Remember this thriller at the Villa? Nope, neither did we. But after digging deep in the archives, we thought we'd restore the memory of this pulsating Midlands derby. It had all gone wrong for Villa - two years earlier they were battling with Manchester United for the league title but Ron Atkinson was now struggling to keep his ageing side in the top flight. Newly-promoted Leicester were themselves battling to maintain their Premier League status - Mark McGhee had recently been appointed after their dismal start to the campaign under Brian Little. After an hour at Villa Park, the home side were romping to victory thanks to strikes from Dean Saunders, Steve Staunton and Dwight Yorke. The Foxes bit back through Mark Robins but before they could digest, red-haired Tommy Johnson had restored Villa's three-goal cushion and victory looked assured. However, McGhee's side came storming back in the final 12 minutes through Iwan Roberts and a David Lowe brace - the equaliser arriving in stoppage time. Leicester failed to show similar character throughout the rest of the season and went down, 20 points adrift of Villa who finished just above the relegation zone.

Had a similar sort of story last year. Bloke who plays for our football club wandered into the bar and asked how Stranraer were getting on?! Random.

What's that about, apparently he was in the bookies before hand and saw a bloke put £2000 on Stranraer to lose away at Queens Park.

Stranraer were bottom of the league, loads of their players had walked out after an 8-1 home defeat in the week. So this bloke had stuck £2000 on them to get beat away at Queens Park.

That final score. Queens Park 1 Stranraer 1.

Fake or not, this is being discussed on a lot of message boards.

Cant see any example of a team recovering a 4-0 scoreline in a less time.

I think in summary, its Mathmatically a good bet, but only if you have a 6 figure bank roll!!

Early poster said £160k was traded at 1.01, so even if its a fake there are plenty of other traders who lost at that price.

Just think how many other succesful 1.01 shots come in prior to this in similar circumstances. Hundreds if not thousands.
