Champions League 2009/2010

How good were Arsenal tonight, 5-0 against Porto.....they made them look half the team they were in the first leg.

Man Utd and Chelsea both have tough games to come, can see Utd progressing but Chelsea could well struggle, especially with Mourinho knowing "the Chelsea way" at Stamford Bridge.

You know half the board were waiting to drop the massive LOLz on Arsenal tonite, and so they'll just have to wait

Arshavin was just immense and did just about everything right but lash one into an open goal from ten yards out, and Nasri's clincher was a thing of sheer beauty (albeit against a gaggle of spellbound defenders --but Porto had battled back into it, and he did make the goal for himself, and the finish was by no means a simple matter)

The one in Florence was pretty entertaining, too, although I'm less than well pleased with the outcome

I'd guess that the two goals that saved Bayern came from a combined 48 yards out

Fantastic goal by Robben last night - and just 72 seconds after Fiorentina had gone 3-1 up

As much as Arsenal did well last night, I just can't see them winning it when push comes to shove.

I think Chelsea could well be out - i can see another Barcelona game on the cards. Very tight, Chelsea go 1 up, then Inter will equalise late on and hold out. You heard it hear first.

Teams from the same country are not held apart in the quarter finals, I wonder if lightening will strike for about the 5th time and Chelsea draw Liverp.........oh.

Arsenal were excellent going forward but need to get Gallas fit and on form before the next round.

I was at the Arsenal game last night...Arsenal very impressive going forward, the way the move the ball around is a joy to watch. Arshavin was fantastic, and when you watch Song play live you see the hugely important role he plays in that team.

Still, they should focus on the league, as they will clearly get knocked out of the UCL by either Rooney or The Drog, who they simply can not deal with.

I only saw about half the game, but Arsenal were shockingly casual the way they gave the ball away, and a better team would have punished them before they were home free. Still a great attacking performance.

The good and the bad in defence. Vermaelen is looking like another of Wenger's very astute signings. Campbell looks like nothing more than a stop-gap whilst Gallas is injured.

porto were utter shite, braga are ahead of them in the portugese league if i'm not mistaken. As usual we'll get arsenal having an inflated sense of how good they actually are after hammering a rubbish side only to come bang down to earth when they play anyone half decent.

Oh and the game of the night was fiorentina v munich, great atmosphere there and much hilarity as firoentina celebrated every goal like they had just won the champions league only for bayern to go up the other end and immediately reply.

Great goal from robben, the better team is through

Lyon do have a great record for reaching the later stages of this competition and played really well tonight.

Nobody will fancy Lyon in QFs; or Bordeaux, if they make it. I was impressed with Les Girondins against Olympiakos. Totally bossed it from start to finish.

At Old Trafford tonight, on the stroke of 80 minutes, 4 of these banners appeared :

Also, at the end of the match, Beckham picked up and wore a green and gold scarf. A picture of him wearing it is front page of the Times tomorrow.

Very colourful I am sure, but given the abject failure of the UNITED NOT FOR SALE campaign is this going to make bog all difference to anything? I think not.

Quite possibly - it's clear to the Glazers that they're not wanted (if there was ever any doubt) - but the campaign has also brought home to the thousands of "ordinary fans" who ordinarily don't give a tinker's cuss about football finance just how bad a thing a leveraged buyout is to a football club.

So it's not just Old Trafford - it's education for supporters of all teams. And in many ways what happens at the biggest club in the country first filters down to everyone else later. At the moment IMUSA & LUST are the standard-bearers of the Supporters' Trust movement.

The other things that's coming out of this is that whereas a few years ago the media would never talk to anyone outside the club, this more than anything has taught them that not only can supporters' organisations and their campaigns be news-worthy, for the first time they are also being taken seriously and credibly - as well as being believed ahead of club spokesmen.

Only Real Madrid could spend £200 Million and get worse. Though I fully expect Man City will try to emulate that over the coming years.

Just goes to show money can't buy you success.
