Bristol City sack Johnson

Always thought of him as a decent manager, would have taken him as Coppell's replacement.

So he resigns (possibly no compensation), he's sacked (and gets compensation). :?

Very harsh his first bad season since going there. Trouble was expectations rose after reaching the play off final. He won't be out of work for long very good manager.

Agreed. He was someone I was hoping we would get when Coppell left.

Usual faces being linked as replacements; Coppell, Southgate, Curbishley, Brown even O'Driscoll

Might be a decent place for SSC to go. Club with plenty of potential, nearish the area he lives in and without the glare of the media.

Looking over the Bristol City forums after we beat them the other week, it seemed like large numbers of the fans wanted him gone.

The decision to removie two strikers at half-time at the Madejski and then bring on a defender when they were 2-0 down seemed to go down particularly badly.

Certainly the case when talking to some City fans in town on Saturday before the game. TBF, City were very poor on Saturday so losing to Argyle on Tuesday night was just the icing on the cake.

I had a look on their otib forum too - felt the criticism of removing Iwelumo and Maynard at HT was harsh considering both looked woeful (especially Iwelumo whose first touch was abysmal). Can't blame their gripe re bringing on the defender though.

Johnson did a good job there. It seems to have been unnoticed by the Bristol City fans though.

Because they are ignorant fools like most of other modern day football fans. When he took over they were in division two, now they are a comfortable championship club only ten points or so behind the play-offs. Absolutely cringe-worthy they've been calling for his head, they are a small club who can barely hit 15k attendances, who do their fans think they are?

Sometimes things are just not meant to be.

Leaves a bitter taste when it was the players who let him down.

Bit more too it tbf.

He is genuinely a very nice bloke, always had time for referee's etc, and maybe being too nice was his downfall.

Actually, it's almost certainly a compromise agreement.

He agrees to resign in return for a compensation settlement.

"Could Bristol City, sacking Gary Johnson help our relegation battle?"

Idiots, a very good manager.
I think they'd be in League 1 now if it wasn't for him.
