Ideal Now only ahead of Millwall on goal difference - by a single goal.
Will they fail again?
Hope so

Division 1 needs BIG teams

Two months is such a long time in football.

Two months ago I thought we were certainties for relegation and that Leeds were nailed on to beat our 106.

What do I know ?

They just haven't played well since their win at Man Utd in the FA Cup.

Short of Reading being relegated, I would be content with every other promotion/relegation outcome anywhere in the league system in exchange for Leeds staying down.

3W 6D 6L since the turn of the year within their division, plus the win over United, forcing the replay with Tottnum and losing over two legs (on pens in the end) to Carlisle in the JPT semis

Their more recent form is of course worse than that with the three losses on the spin (although they were up against better placed opposition, which is not to excuse but perhaps indeed to reveal)

Anything could happen over the 8 games that remain to all contenders of course, but about the only thing going for 'em these days is the fact that there's only one side below the top six with a realistic shot at catching 'em, but at least Hudds are still 9 points adrift, and I wouldn't expect 8 games to be enough time to bridge that gap

So if we won't be seeing them on next year's fixture list, then at least they should be playing on TV in mid-May

But again, who the f*ck knows

Their collapse has the hallmarks of what happened to us last year.

Fairplay to Norwich after there 1st game a 7-1 throbbing by Colchester, LOL at the fan who threw his season ticket at Gunn. As for Leeds I think they'll still be in League 1 next year!

General question but was it our 2-0 win over Norwich a few games before the end of last season that relegated them?

No, because they'd've survived if (and only if) they'd won and Barnsley'd lost to Argyle on the last day (and their game with us was the penultimate for both)

Barnsley beat Plymouth at Home Park --a draw would've sufficed-- to finish in 20th ahead of Argyle, and Norwich lost away to already-relgated Charlton (but as it played out, a win wouldn't've saved 'em)

Subject covered here, and I just looked it up again to make certain

I've always wanted to be at a game when Reading have relegated the opposition by beating them.

Reading vs Peterborough and Watford vs Reading at the end of this season, you never know although P'boro may be down by then!

Interesting that you want to be at one. I'm not sure if I have been at one, but I know I have been to one that relegated Brighton by letting Stoke win.

Didn't we send Oldham down in 97, when Neville Roach scored in a 2-0 win?

We also sent Chesterfield down with a 4-2 win on the last day in 1989, although they'd have gone down anyway.

Would they. I thought it was a similar scenario to our 2002 game with Brentford, except Chesterfield only need a draw and we needed a win to stay up?

Recall us being 2-0 down at half time, and coming back in the second half.

They finished 5 points from safety, and were four points behind us at the start of the day. Teams above them had to lose for them to stay up.

I've heard they somehow they found out the results were against them at half time and lost all enthusiasm as they knew they were down, which made our comeback a little easier.

Had we lost we'd have gone down, even if it didn't seem that likely before kick-off, as all the teams within reach below us had to win for that to happen (which they did). A draw would have kept us up regardless.

Big game v the swine this weekend. Failure this year will hurt them bad as Bechio and another Snodgrass I think? Are both able to leave on frees.

Are they gonna have a hard time keeping Beckford in the squad, or is League One hotshot reckoned, in the final analysis, to be just about the limit of his excellence?

It's a genuine question asked out of sincere curiosity, prompted by...
