Yeah and how about this re. the Sheff U game. We have the Copp saying
“I wouldn’t call it 'must win’ and I don’t like to put that kind of pressure on one game,” he declared. “We’ve got six games left but yes, it is very important.

Sorry Steve. Can smell it from here mate. Bless ya for trying though.

Play it down all you like. Very important. It's more than important.

Like Shankly once said,"It's not a matter of life or death. It's more important than that."

It's a must win game. Simple as.

The worrying thing is that on current form, ie we don't get any better, we'll be in the playoffs and Coppell has already stated that he wants to be in the states over that period for his son. Perish the thought of his memory if that happened and it was all a part of his leaving this summer anyway.

Source of a source says that he's not happy with his coaching staff's situation from this summer; maybe there's a bigger plan under play that's unsettling the dressing room.

if coppell leaves expect us to be playing mid to lower level championship football for the next few years if we're lucky, and we'll have all you coppell haters to thank for it. its time to stop moaning and get behind the team 100%.

Nobody has mentioned Darren Ferguson as a possible replacement should Copps leave ...
rather him than Sanchez, Parkinson, Tisdale ( ? ) or any others previosly mentioned ...

There is no question that we have become very predictable and stale and the need for a decent overhaul is long overdue, should have happened at the end of the first Premiership season, but the as of now the total lack of investment has allowed us to drift into a play-off battle when pre-christmas we were the best by a long way, we have again forgotten or just not learnt how to bring in some fresh blood in the transfer window, and have plodded away with the same hoof and run football that JM must have been dreaming about, in his efforts to keep us in the championship "for the time being" his words not mine !

But a new manager, certain to happen at the end of this season and if we dont go up, his decision pre-season to stay will look very poor, replacements have been mentioned but it has to someone who will work within the financial stranglehold that is JM.

Darren Ferguson like that one, but at Peterborough he has had cash to spend, the likes of what he wont get here
Di Matteo Genius, take him tomorrow
Sanchez Wont happen
Hoddle pretty local. knows the set up, would be good with the young lads, these are our future
Dillon Didnt work at all last time
Pardew yeah could see this, knows all about JM's financial neck brace
Downes Then we could play with 11 defenders then and have loads of clean sheets
Rodgers Would be able to walk into the job tomorrow. knows all about the club and the young players

So all in all a reasonably decent bunch, could throw Gary Johnsons name into the hat has always done well at Yeovil and Bristol City, and my dream of a manager would be Ryan Giggs, but that aint never goin to happe !!!

Alan Partridge
handbags_harris Mere speculation. Coppell won't last this calendar year. If we don't go up he'll leave. If we do he won't strengthen the squad sufficiently and we'll be in a right state come December, by which time he'll have been given the boot. We will then appoint Lawrie Sanchez, Iain Dowie, or Paul Tisdale as manager.

UR&G anyone?

Holy Christ, fold the club.

He took over a struggling conference team and is on the verge of leading them to back to back promotions. Even after selling a couple of his best players to Torquay (which contributed to the million quid that he has bought into the club from player sales)

To be honest, Fleetwood and Stewart up front would not look out of place in the Championship

Can't really see JM going for an overseas manager like Tisdale.

I think that when a Manager comes out with the statement, "I don't know where it went wrong", every time you lose, that clearly he needs to question his abilities.Clearly he should be analysing the mistakes a little better.
If I told my boss week in week out that "I dont know what went wrong" everytime I was culpable, that I'd be joining the dole queue faster than Jimmy Kebe gets down the flank !!! (Ok maybe a bit quicker).
Clearly whilst he's done miracles for this club it's time for a change for both parties I feel.

I much prefer Coppell's honesty.

Managers have a whole list of ready-made excuses / off-pat phrases up their sleeves but it is very unlikely they can really know the reasons for a poor display in its immediate aftermath, or often even after detailed analysis. Managers generally speak for the sake of it, (but it doesn't mean it's any more than guesswork that comes out of their mouths) - Coppell rarely if ever does that.

If Coppell goes - and I am a big fan and hope he doesn't, we'll need the following attributes in our new manager if we're to get back in the Prem:

1. Proven Track record of getting promoted
2. Commands players respect
3. Good contacts for new players at top clubs (eg Man U)
4. Not currently in a job as we won't want to pay compensation to another club
5. Good connections in Ireland (well its worked up til now!)

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you....................
