Speculation - Paul Parry

by Super Kevin Bremner! » 24 Jul 2009 20:46

Bid accepted by Cardiff from a non-disclosed Championship side.

Believed to be Preston or Doncaster.

Could however be us as we're after an attacking midfielder. He can play left/right or middle of the park and for £300K I reckon he'd be an excellent signing.

I've always thought he's a pretty decent player anyway.....

We have more midfielders than you can shake a stick at. What we need is central defenders.

He's best as a left=winger running on the line.

I saw him playing for Hereford at Forest Green Rovers just over a hundred years ago
his first touch and his ability to get to balls he had no right to reach was superb.

IMO he's a much better player going forward than SHunt.

Why is it we're after an attacking midfielder when we have a shortage of goalscoring strikers & wingers and the beginnings of a centreback crisis?

Are we after Parry, then?

I've seen a You Tube video of him. Dunno, he could play CB maybe
but I'd be worried about all the yellows and reds he'd get and
I think he doesn't like hooped shirts or places beginning R
and don't you think his eyes are a bit close together?

What do people feel is the ideal number of midfielders for stick shaking ?

For that matter, how many players do you need for each position ?

I'm thinking probably 2 for "speciality" positions (ie keeper, each full back position, each wide midfield position) and obviously more in terms of centre back/mid/forward.

I'm not saying Paul Parry is or isn't, but I don't think you can turn down good players that could improve your team just because you've got loads in his position.

I have no idea if we ARE interested but he would be a good replacement for SHunt, if/when SHunt leaves,
is mature (something we need) a fully capable international (even tho he now refuses to play for Wales)
and is a known goal-scorer. I'd've thought that solved the left midfield attacking nicely.

Yes, two very, very promising kids, and that's where the balance has to be found.

Does BR go for broke and "presume" the kids will all come good (and quickly)
or does he have one more season where they are developed with occasional
games, sub appearances and so on, so that next season they are truly reliable
first-teamers?

I am not making a judgment either way except to say my belief is that sides "full of" kids
are very fragile and can end up on terrible runs even though they have great class.

Presuming we get one good centre-back or keep Bikey who matures (as Captain) or Ingi comes back and is still excellent
I think we have a very, very good defence. To think that Armstrong will struggle to hold his place says a lot.

Tabb, Gunnarson, Matejovsky, Harper are very, very solid central mid-felders and Karacan can be excellent too.
Add to that a few boys and the middle looks superb.

We have plenty of kids for both flanks, Church looks excellent, Long finished last season scoring for fun, Noel is reliable.

I just think an older CB for safety, and we MIGHT need a striker. (But Shane may fulfil the promise he showed at the end of 2008-9)

If Parry wasn't too expensive, he's great cover as he plays left, middle or as a striker. NOT saying we are interested.

In fairness to SBers, it was completely for your benefit.
