Rumour: Peter Taylor has applied!

by TBM » 07 Jan 2010 14:16

Have heard that Peter Taylor has applied for the vacant Reading managers job and wants to keep McD as his number 2........

Would this be a bad move?

Lots of people have applied - including loads of "joke" applications.

But while they're not looking for candidates it's irrelevant.

Don't think so. Has quite a good run with the England U-21 so he should be good with young players. Should be able to bring out the best in Pearce and Cummings too i hope! Has quite a good managerial record and at least its better than Iain Dowie!

Managerial Stats:

Team From To Games Won Lost Drawn
Wycombe 30-05-2008 09-10-2009 63 22 19 22
C Palace 14-06-2006 08-10-2007 60 21 23 16
Hull 14-10-2002 29-06-2006 184 77 57 50
Brighton 17-10-2001 31-05-2002 38 21 6 11
Leicester 12-06-2000 30-09-2001 54 19 26 9
Gillingham 07-07-1999 12-06-2000 62 34 16 12
Southend 01-08-1993 22-02-1995 84 27 41 16

and....

Honours:

Dartford

* Southern League Cup winner: 1988, 1989
* Southern League Championship Match winner: 1988, 1989
* Kent Senior Cup winner: 1987, 1988

Gillingham

* Football League Division Two Play-Off Final winner: 1999–00

Brighton & Hove Albion

* Football League Division Two winner: 2000–01

Hull City

* Football League Division Three runner-up: 2003–04
* Football League One runner-up: 2004–05

Wycombe Wanderers

* Football League Two 3rd: 2008–09

I've got it on good authority that BM is here for a while yet and we're not looking or advertising for a manager. HTH.

let's just hope that we are not adrift by March and also that Sir Steve is still on his sabbatical by the time the penny drops that nice guy Brian is out of his depth....

^ agreed. I'm not saying I agree with this decision - just that it's what I've been told.

Now with Fergie Jnr. out of the running, this guy would be the second best choice IMO!

I can quite believe it RL, just got this sickening feeling that Brian is not the answer and think that (unless there was something in the background that has not yet surfaced) the sacking of Brendan, whether you agreed with it or not, was premature. I personally thought he was starting to get his act together and we should have stuck with him at least until the end of the season as I don't think he would have taken us down. If we finished in 16th/17th or below then may be then a parting of the waves in the summer but this is a season of huge transition.

Hope BM proves me wrong but despite my name....I am not optimistic!!

Personal preference would have been for Sir Steve to be persuaded back, with fans expectations now suitably lowered and more realistic!

Failing that then a realistic target like Irvine.

Taylor, Southgate, Dowie - not thanks

curbishley - unrealistic to think he would come here, I would think he thinks he is better than the Championship and done his time at Charlton not to come back to a similar slog, much rather sit it out for a Prem club like Brum/Sunderland or even Burnley.

With such a pittance of a salary on offer at less than £200K. What sort of quality are you going to get? Probably two odd job boysthat's why it is a cheap option.

Even peanuts no longer buy monkeysssssss. But you can get a few tits! We have a right tit and he's called the Madman.

Real Facts. Going downnnnnnnn

Does it matter what sort of applicants we're attracting when there isn't a vacancy?

each of his clubs have been worse off when he left and pretty much all sets of fans slate him for what he did at their clubs

He has taken over decent sides and ruined them all

Keep him away please

It can't be as bad as taking a risk on McDermott.

I like him, but it's still one big risk with League 1 football punishment for fuking it up.

Taylor gets the same meh as the likes of Dowie, Sanchez... just meh!

I'd much much rather keep MaccyD than get in someone who was a bit "meh". I'm cautious and reservedly impressed with him so far.
