According to Wikipedia he is only 29

Does he have a similar Nigerian age calculation to Obafemi Martins?

Setanta also reporting it

Reading are understood to have put Aiyigbeni Yakubu at the top of their summer shopping list - ahead of former favourite Kevin Doyle.

Royals boss Brian McDermott is already scouring the continent on the lookout for new signings and clubs that look set to drop out of the Premier League, such as Blackburn and Wolves, are ripe for the picking.

However, despite former Reading top scorer Doyle appearing to be a popular choice among the fans and Royals players to return to the Madejski Stadium, McDermott prefers Yakubu.

The Nigerian, 29, has two years left on his Ewood Park contract but is believed to be unwilling to drop into the Championship following a prolific season in which his Premier League haul of 16 goals from 27 matches is bettered only by Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Sergio Aguero.

Doyle, 28, has struggled to make an impact for Wolves and has scored only four goals in 24 starts.

McDermott will only make a move for Yakubu if Blackburn are relegated from the top flight, but the manager is keen to bolster his strikeforce after Reading won the Championship despite scoring a relatively paltry 69 goals in 45 games, with their top scorers Adam Le Fondre with 12 goals, Noel Hunt (eight) and Simon Church (seven).

This would obviously be a gr8 signing, but I can’t help thinking there will be some bigger clubs after him. And despite our Russian investment, WCBAP.

Would make sense seeing as they both were at Blackburn. Could work although at the same time could be a little too similar for it to work. £2.5 million tops for the Yak would work out nicely! :D

didn't QPR have a bid of £2.5m rejected in January, thinking they had met the release clause when it was inf act a relegation release clause of £2.5m.

for a guy with his record, thats a pretty good bit of business

Agree, however Blackburn wont be paying him big wages there. Perhaps 30-35k. But I do think a bigger more established club will get him over us, but we can only hope. It would be a huge lift going into the new season with someone of his calibre in the side.

Agreed. We could do with another tough PL proven forward as well as Roberts (who is unlikely to be able to play 36 consecutive games).

Problem is that if we do offer him £30-35k per week that's clearly above what we're paying players at the moment, so as a knock-on it'll push up the rest of the squad's contract renewals. Can't see us making a signing like this just yet, maybe if we stay up and attempt to "establish" ourselves we could start to think about bigger wage players.

Do a Stoke, keep official wages down by giving signing on fee.

Also, THIS season, the RFC current squad haven't got massive bargaining power.

eg Ian Harte (love him, but) could hardly push for massive wages
when he's nearing the end of his career
