Reading are interested in Tottenham defender Sebastien Bassong, according to reports.
The 25-year old is very much out of favour at Tottenham at the moment and is keen for a permanent switch away from White Hart Lane, rather than a loan move. It is believed Spurs would be interested in a figure of around £4 million for Bassong, who has only made 44 appearances in his three-year tenure.
Royals boss Brian McDermott will be keen to add a central defender to his squad in the current transfer window, with Kaspars Gorkss and Alex Pearce the only recognised centre backs in the squad and the future of Sean Morrison very much uncertain. A move for former loan player Matt Connolly could also be a high possibility.

Good player at Spurs, but thought he struggled with lesser quality players at Wolves. I would be happy with this signing though!

From what I've heard from Watford fans, I'd definitely rather have Cummings at RB. Mariappa is physically decent and a good tackler, but supposedly lacks any sort of positional sense when playing at full back.
That said, I think that both he and Bassong would be very good buys. Always get Bassong confused with Boumsong, who was undoubtedly awful.

He's not shit he was just playing in a team the back end of last year that had no defensive organisation at all. Would considerably toughen up our defence if we were to bring him in not a bad price if the £4 million fee is true.

A Wolves fan I work said he is a very good player and was comfortably their best player when he was on loan with them. A ball playing centre back who loves to bring the ball out of defence rather than just do long punts.

He won't fit into 'the Reading way' then.
Experienced premier league centre back, if we can get him at a good price then surely he is worth getting. Clearly out of picture at Spurs and we could do with another centre back before the start of the season!!

My Wolves STH housemate always rated him during his brief spell there. Unfortunate with the injury that meant he only played about 4 games for them. Would definitely improve our squad
Any news on this one?
