Wiki sayeth...

Modibo Maiga (born September 3, 1987 in Mali) is a Malian footballer. He currently plays for Sochaux. He is a forward who can play as a winger.

Raja casablanca morocco

Maiga began his career with Stade Malienin his home nation but soon moved to Moroccan powerhouse Raja CA Casablanca where he spent his late teenage years, recruiter of MUC 72, allows him to join the MUC 72 in January 2007 as a six-month loan with an option to purchase, then it is evolving at that time under the colors of Raja Casablanca with whom he won several awards including the Throne the Cup Arab Champions League.

He trains and plays at first with the CFA. For his first game in the CFA, he managed a double. Without playing with the first team, he signed a two-year contract with the Le Mans at the end of the loan, and continues thereafter.

Le Mans

Maiga made a move to Ligue 1 side Le Mans in the year of his 20th birthday. Playing alongside Ivory Coast player Gervinho, Maiga established himself as a top prospect in French football. Despite Le Mans suffering relegation to Ligue 2 Maiga was hot property due to 15 goals in 88 games. Maiga consequently signed a four year contract with Sochaux until 2014 and took the number 15 shirt.

Sochaux

During the 2010–11 campaign Maiga struck up a 30 goal partnership with Ideye Brown each scoring 15 goals. Between them, they scored over half of FC Sochaux's league goals. Maiga and Brown were assisted by playmakeing duo Marvin Martin and Ryad Boudebouz as Sochaux qualified for the Europa League.

On 12 August 2011, he announced to his club that he would never again play for Sochaux because he wanted a transfer to Newcastle United. He refused to play against Stade Malherbe de Caen and AS Nancy but then did play against Metallist Kharkiv and FC Lorient. He and teammate Kevin Anin were removed from the first team after disappearing. However, on Maiga's return to the first team he scored four goals in three games.
On 18 October, several newspapers, including The Daily Telegraph and L'Equipe, reported that Maiga was close to a deal to move to Newcastle Utd. in the January transfer window and on the 13th of December it was reported that he had passed a medical in London ahead of his move, with the transfer fee believed to be in the region of £7 million pounds. However on 16 December 2011, L'Equipe reported that Maiga had failed his medical with Newcastle.

International career

Maïga is a star of the Mali national football team and wore the number 10 shirt at the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations. However, on 3 September 2011, he did not appear in Mali's vital 2012 African Cup of Nations qualification match against Cape Verde. Maïga was called up again to the Mali squad for 2012 Africa Cup of Nations. He contracted Malaria while participating in the competition and was thus hospitalized. He had to miss the semi-finals with a 1-0 defeat against Côte d'Ivoire.

Yet another sign that Reading look like we will smash our record transfer fee paid out this Summer. Nearly all the rumours are of bids at over £3m and even free transfers (i.e. Pogrebnyak) aren't cheap wages either. Happy days :D

Never heard of him. £6m. Really? :|

Sounds like an agent prostituting his player around.

The Sun have reported that we've beat West Ham to his signature today (was this a real West Ham bid though or was it a case of, "oh there bidding, put us in for a quid then")

Reading have also bid for Maiga while Stoke maintain an interest too. Reading expect to have Pavel Pogrebnyak's work permit processed today and are closing on a deal for free agent midfielder Danny Guthrie.

The Sun says ...

Highly-rated Sochaux striker Modibo Maiga is hoping this will be the year he finally secures his long-awaited move to the Premier League.

The Mali international looked to be on his way to Newcastle 12 months ago, with the Magpies spending much of the summer attempting to put a deal in place.

Maiga made it clear to Sochaux that he wanted out, claiming that he would refuse to turn out for the club again if they blocked a move.

No deal materialised, though, and the 24-year-old was forced to see out the season in France.

It is now being suggested that he could get his dream move to England when the transfer window re-opens.

West Ham and Reading are among those reported to be keen on acquiring his services, and Maiga hopes that an agreement can be put in place.

"My dream has always been to play in the Premier League, the best league in the world," he said.

"I almost joined Newcastle, but it did not happen.

"Some Sochaux fans held that against me, but not all of them.

"It is still my ambition to play in the Premier League, so if a team wants to talk I will listen to them once they have reached an agreement with Sochaux."

Daily Mail are claiming that Maiga has opted for West Ham, but also apparently had offers from ourselves and Stoke.
