Re: Sensible signings?

akranes Can anyone think of any good signings, financially as well...?

For midfield I believe, like many others, that we need a Gylfi.
Possibilities?
Robert Koren - His goal on FLS shows he's still got it.. possibly.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Koren 750k~
Zvjezdan Misimović - Two more years of his contract at Dynamo Moscow. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zvjezdan_Misimovi%C4%87 2M +
Per Ciljan Skjelbred (thanks Ideal ^^) - Seems plausible! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Per_Ciljan_Skjelbred 1-2M

I think, especially if Pearce leaves, we should go in for a experienced AND decent, consistent central defender.

Up front, I think maybe we're alright.

I would like to see us go for Tom Huddlestone. Was close to joining Stoke before Adam joined. Was told he had little future at Spurs (ala Dawson) and is behind Sandro, Dembele, Sigurdsson & Livermore in the Spurs pecking order. Plus, if they rekindle their interest in Moutinho that could all but end his career at Spurs. He is a tough tackler and has a decent pass, oh, and a cracking shot on him and is 'only' 25. I think he is not out of our reach and could be just the man we are looking for without changing our team dynamics, but would add some real quality.

Despite being essentially transfer-listed he has now fought his way back into contention since dembele got injured. Read AVB saying he has a future. Also I wouldn't say he is behind Sig anymore as they are too different. They tried playing sig in one of the deeper roles recently and he failed completely so i think he will be sticking to competing with Dempsey for behind the striker. Would be nice but I would be surprised if they sell him now.

okay ready to be shot down but here goes:

Defence/Midfield: Étienne Capoue (Toulouse) - picked in Ligue 1 team of the year and in my eyes a perfect match for us. Would have a better pedigree than what Fae arrived with

Midfield: Zvjezdan Misimović (Dynamo Moscow) - would be a very, very exciting signing; but with 2 years to run on his contract questionable whether we would pay the fee required.

Midfield: Joe Cole (Liverpool) - seriously think throwing this guy a lifeline could pay dividends. On a loan, what would there be to lose but push Hal/Kebe/McCleary/Jobi to further up their games.

Striker: Danko Lazović (Zenit) - frozen out of the club where he has had several fairly successful years. May not have had much game time this season but on a free, would give good competition to our frontline. Linked well with Arshavin last season

Other than these Dann/Formica (Blackburn), Ince (Blackpool) or the name that's always thrown around Mr Whittingham (Cardiff).

Edit: Just checked on Capoue and he made his France debut last month :(

1. An attacking/creative central midfielder
2. A first team rightback
3. A first team striker

I'd be more than happy with those three acquisitions, but wouldn't say no to a seriously awesome holding midfielder. Oh and if we lose Pearce, maybe a CB too.

Have just read all this through,

And I'm with Brendy - Good centre back a la Dawson and a good centre midfielder a la Sidwell and I reckon we'd be ok. Would be extremely chuffed with both of those purchases.

I'd go as far as saying that Sidwell would be the most crucial one. Midfield general is exactly what we need.

Anderson is not first choice at MU - cheeky loan to the end of the season ?

youre just as bad as they are

no change to the running of the club
no masses of money, just enough so we could keep our best players and buy the odd new one
steady investment in infrastructure in order to grow the club sustainably so it can support succesful premeiere league football in the long term

thats what we were promised, and thats exactly what we are getting

So we didn't make a deadline day bid for Zaha then, as some had supposed. Budget was already spent.

I very much doubt the transfer window will solve all our problems. Out fate this season is almost certainly in the hands of the players we already have.

If we have not accumulated at least say 18 points by Jan 1st then we might as well not buy anyone and just let the current squad see out the season before the inevitable relegation and rebuild for next season in the Championship.

And if the current squad go on a good run and we have a chance of staying up then I suspect that all we would add would be one or two players that could make a difference. I don’t see a huge number of additions being made.

From the OS. Indicates to me that there will not be a lot of activity in January and that Brian is confident his job is safe. We shall see.

Brian McDermott Said:
But eventually you find someone that you think can make a difference and you make that signing and it turns out you may as well have spent the money on hair braiding supplies.

Meat gets discounted because it's going off, Brian. Just a thought.
