SPECULATION - John Arne Riise

by TBM » 16 Jan 2013 00:29

Told he can leave Fulham after a fall out with manager Martin Jol

Decent experienced left back with a mean left peg

He's top notch. There's your "not too expensive, experienced premiership player." Getting on but still very influential, surprised Fulham are letting him go so easily even after a falling out. Perhaps there's something more sinister going on here.

Our problem at the back is conceding goals, so I'd rather we got someone in who could defend better than him. Also I don't think he's scored since joining Fulham and keeps shooting from a long way out.

Better than what we currently have by a country mile. A wealth of experience at the top level and can play further down the left wing if needed to. Would be a brilliant signing for us and one that could sustain a place in the team over the next couple of years at least.

Also would physically make our defence stronger as well.

Agreed. We'll show no interest though and he'll end up at QPR or Wigan or somewhere.

Would be a fantastic signing. Would take this guy over Arshavin.

Been told he can leave, vastly experienced in the PL, plays in a position where we have issues.

Go get him Brian!

Low Risk as i doubt he would cost a lot but got the potential to be a major signing for us. Would be an excellent signing.

I dont really see what the point of signing yet another 30+ left back. the combined age for our 3 current left back would be 98!! Plus he's not really a defensive solution.

Perhaps you're not looking at the bigger picture here. In the summer both Harte and Shorey are out of contract. Harte will definitely go. Shorey I suspect will get another one-year contract, but we still need another left-back. Unless you're expect super Jo Mills to come back a much improved player..

I'm sure Riise would also do a more than good enough job at left back this year, and as cover next year.

He has scored 4 career free-kicks

Built a career on that one free-kick vs Man Utd for liverpool years and years ago.

Would be a decent signing no doubt, but I would prefer a more long term solution such as Martin Olsson. Maybe Figueroa at the end of the season if we somehow stay up and Wigan go down.
