Transfers

by charlie farley » 06 Jul 2013 12:34

Does the deafening silence (ref signings of a new striker) indicate that RFC are still unable to attract the people we are going after? And if so, why is this, after all the lessons we are supposed to have learnt?

How many other clubs have already gone and got three of their targets, and big name targets at that?!

We have just signed Royston Drenthe a former Real Madrid player and Wayne Bridge, what more do you want? plus it looks like we are retaining most of our quality players.

If our business was done with no more comings and goings i would be extremely happy.

We have a very strong squad

We've signed two International players in Williams and Bridge, and someone who played for Real Madrid, and July has only just begun...

Why are you complaining?

Nope *not until they've played for us.

In conjunction with second post.

Nope.

Just out of interest then, what was our best transfer window? And I mean without hindsight of how good those players became, I mean in terms of proven quality coming in through the door. In that sense then this is already the best transfer window for us, and with time to add a couple more as well.

The problem is you really can't judge the success of a transfer window without hindsight though if you could under your criteria of "proven quality" then you'd have to say January 2005 when we brought in Keown and Ferdinand was our most successful in terms of player profile.

Whilst I agree with your point, I don't think bringing in 38/39 year olds can be expected to be quality. That said, their experience clearly rubbed off on the team and the following season we went on to win the league with 106 points.

By saying "nope" was that not you judging a transfer window without hindsight?

One8Seven1 Ex-Reading youth team striker Charlie Austin, 23, is another potential target following earlier links in January while 29-year-old free agent Nicky Bailey is also on the radar having left Middlesbrough.

In addition, sources say Southampton strikers Billy Sharp and Ricky Lambert as well as Fulham's ex-Royals midfield enforcer Steve Sidwell are attracting Reading's interest.

Sources they say! Those 'sources' were ITK kids accounts on Twitter and the rumours first originated on that football-rumours website. I'm not surprised by the Chronicle's failings in the sports department, but this is totally unacceptable journalism.

I'm not surprised by your failure to notice threads about all of the above players

New Striker. Who?

by LoyalRoyal22 » 06 Jul 2013 16:07

Ok first of all the signings we have made so far look promising and the squad on paper looks awesome

Seen quotes from RFC that indicate we looking at signing another 1-2 players, i guess it is pretty safe to say one will be a striker. I think a new top class striker would pretty much complete the squad assuming we don't lose anybody we don't want to lose.

Seeing as we seem to have a pretty healthy budget, according to several different papers linking us with several different players for big sums ( Gary Hooper) , if you had the choice , who would you realistically want?

John Guidetti on loan for the season. This guy is quality and would be a great interim signing as we are trying to bounce straight back up and if we manage that would attract better players than we would now. Most names out there look quite expensive an I think it would make more sense to spend 6 million on a player when we are promoted..

Newcastle bought quality players from abroad for cheap prices and we could attract those type of players if we not only win the championship but also put on a strong showing in the cups.
