Cedric Baseya available, Matthieu Manset has just come off market unfortunately.

Simon Church is a free agent if we find ourselves up excrement creek without a paddle.

LoyalRoyal22 It's looking like Hooper to QPR and Sharp to Celtic. Hope we have good alternative targets. We may need 2 forwards if Pavel leaves. :|

Was thinking the exact thing! Yakubu and Powell and I'd be happy but that's obviously one opinion

If it's not Hooper or Sharp then surely it only leaves Charlie Austin.

Really not bothered if we miss out on Sharp.

Would like Austin and Connor Wickham (if the Pog leaves).

Saying that it's not always the obvious contenders that bang in the goals. Another Dwight Gayle would be useful.

No, actually Carlisle have released him as well.

Sign him up, we can bang him on for the last 5 minutes and he can wreck havoc before he runs out of steam - as at Cardiff

If the 'Fake hoops' get Hooper (proving that he would come to the Championship) and we lose him because we weren't prepared to pay what he is worth, we are back to the old days. It's OK getting good people on free's but when money is involved, RFC suddenly have short pockets. Carrico is going, The Pog is possibly on his way, why can we not spend 6m on a decent striker?

Because Pog hasn't gone.

^ this

There's no way that we'll blow our transfer record out of the water on a new marquee striker until he's gone, the big worry is, will anyone want him?
If not, then we may well have to make do with what we've got, or possibly sell another asset (McCarthy?) to raise the funds...

All this shows is that "The Reading Way" still exists (good thing as far as I'm concerned) exactly as promised by TSI throughout the takeover process. I don't understand why anyone would find this surprising.....

Wonder who the three trialists we had for the u21s were yesterday [two first half, one second].

The striker in the first half was Nigel Neita [Nigel Paul Oldfield Spence-Neita].

Ex Arsenal, joined them in 2010 and was released in the summer after one season as a professional. He had a trial at Milwall last week, he was with them before going to Arsenal.

Quick striker, can play deep or on the wings, played a lot for Arsenal on the left wing. If he is a striker he doesn't seem to score much at youth level - scored against our youth team last December, his first in almost two years

19 [20 in December]. Jamaican/English, London born, has been called up for the senior Jamaican team. 5'10.

Looks like Neita was on the wing.

We also had another striker on trial that played in the first half, looks like it was Dan Thompson [19 year old released by Pompey over the summer]. Former Hampden and Richmond striker who was tracked by Liverpool and had trials at Stoke etc before ending up at Pompey where he made a few appearanes in cup games last season.

If we don't sign a striker we are in deep sh1t, one injury and we will be ridiculously short on firepower

I'm anticipating a transfer deadline day sweep for Wayne Rooney as United will be under pressure to sell....Watch this space
Seriously though, there is over a month left of the Window remaining, we have already got our starting 11 so even if a new striker was signed on 31st August it wouldn't be a disaster ( disregarding anyone leaving )

If RFC do not buy a decent striker before the Season starts, our squad will be so unbalanced as to be laughable. A Hooper, Rhodes, Austin or like are required for our team to be promotion candidates and a good back-up (like Sharp) would also help. We are great at attracting good free transfers but, when money needs to be spent, it seems that the old failed RFC ethos is still in evidence. If we need Rhodes or Hooper or Austin (which we do), BLOODY PAY FOR THEM! The rewards when we get re-promoted will be far more than worth it.
