Whitleyroyal Does anyone know if anything was mentioned by NA at the STAR forum this week regarding transfers?

We can only hope now that we manage to keep Pog. Think he will be good in Champ if he can accept the drop and stay. Lot better than anything now left I think.Although theres always that bloke at Bognor Regis!!

NA spotted at rabsons park this weekend looking at pre season training for Whitley United! You heard it here first

Yes I saw him too. He was with Hammond . Saw them leave though muttering something about not sure they could afford him. Now looking at Sunday league

It's Cool, we are actively seeking a striker I've seen the post in jobcentreplus
£6.50 per hour, must be available weekends and week day nights

Marvin Sordell just signed for Charlton on loan, decent signing that.

I'm rather hoping that all is quiet because we are waiting for a few things to fall at other clubs before confirming the season long loan of a proven or promising premier league striker.

My worst fear is that this is it till Jan but I really struggle to believe that.

Yeah, the thing about being a proven Premiership striker is that you tend to play in the Premiership.

at best we will get a young player who isnt good enough to play in the prem now, on loan, who probably wont be good enough for the championship either
or an older player who is at the end of their career, and no longer really of prem standard
or someone from this or lower leagues who we believe has room to improve and potentially be made good enough for the prem
or a relatively unknown foreigner with a funny name who everyone will think is the best player ever, despite only seeing three clips on utube

Or one of our young talented players is going to be given an opportunity to play in a different way, in a different shape, in a different game plan. Or one or two of our academy players are talented enough to start moving up the order sheet...

I am loving the numpties saying Alf can only be an impact player- he has only played where and how in the role he has been given. There were plenty clamouring for him to start. Maybe he will get the chance...

It is of course a remote possibility that NA knows the players, the plan, and the tactics a bit better than some on here.

Ouroboros Yeah, the thing about being a proven Premiership striker is that you tend to play in the Premiership.

Strangely enough I was referring more to a 'proven' Jason Roberts type signing than a 'proven' Wayne Rooney type. Those players that are still under contract but simply down the pecking order at their current club (no, I don't mean Bent either) who the club may want to get out and get playing.

Obviously, a young promising player is more likely but at the same time more of an unknown quantity, although Upson and Bertrand worked out quite well for us in the past.

I'm also merely stating that I hope this is the case rather than nothing happening because we really don't have plans for anyone else. Very sorry for not making it clear that I wasn't expecting van Persie on loan

Back to Clint Dempsey. He's talking to MLS side Seattle Sounders. Surely we could put a offer together that would be equally, if not more lucrative that them? He would be the sort of player we need to play just behind the striker. Shame to see a player like that disappear back to the MLS.

I'd happily spend a bit on him, great work ethic which would mean he'd fit into the club right, being 30 hes still got a 2/3 good years in him, fills that attacking midfield role we've been missing, blatantly not gonna happen but would love it to!

I wouldn't. Ok he's had 1 amazing season out of nowhere for Fulham, and a decent one in a free scoring spurs squad. Go back a couple of years and he was going whole seasons without hitting double figures. Le Fondre got 12 for us in the prem, and for a while we were having a good crack at beating Derby's record.

Adkins has a great track record of picking out strikers from the lower leagues who have stepped up. Lambert and Hooper are just 2 examples. I am quite confident that he has his targets and we will add a striker before the transfer window (With an almighty crash SLAMS) shuts.

May not be the big name for the big fee our more 'special' fans demand, but whoever he/they are, and I am sure NA will do the right thing.

Lambert was one of Pardews signings.

Surely we are close to signing a striker. Would be interesting to see who our targets are.

I would be utterly unsurprised to see Paddy Madden in our starting line up next month.

Why Paddy Madden of all people? I mean he's very good and I'd be happy with him, but have there even been any rumours about him joining us? It seems unlikely, anyway.

Given our aspirations, almost all of the Strikers we needed have already been sold or, are in the Championship but may cost considerable money. I would love to see a Michu come to Reading, someone who no-one else has heard of but, the truth is, we have already missed the boat and we are likely to still be in the Championship next Season. With our current squad, we have a relegation strike-force!
