Pavel Pogrebnyak is wanted by Zorya Luhansk in Ukraine #readingfc striker unlikely to be at the Mad Stad much longer

That would be a massive chunk off the wage bill!

You beat me to it.

If we manage to get rid of Pog this summer it will have been the greatest transfer window in recent memory.

Yep, we will have done an incredibly good job at further weakening a very poor squad and be heading straight for League 1. And anyone who really thinks that the Thais and Mad John will replace the good players that they have let go with players who are as good, let alone add further strength to the squad, is clearly living in cloud cuckoo land.

Once again we will be fed the usual - the right players weren't available, we couldn't identify anyone who would add to our squad, etc. etc.

Great if true we need to reduce the wage role to start rebuilding . He is on £53k week ! This is our last year of parachute payments

The thing is, if he goes, even for free, that's £1.5m freed up that the club probably wouldn't have expected. One would hope that gives a bit more flexibility in the transfer dealings.

This would be good news.

You'd have to be a complete and utter moron to think that getting that hideously overpaid Russian off the wage bill is anything other than fantastic news for this football club!

I've been asking for good news. We had false dawn with Foderingham. But this would be utterly fabulous. We should be able to pay two strikers who'll probably do better out of the wedge we'd save from him. Assuming we didn't end up still paying half his wage just to make a saving and shift him

I find that difficult to believe, and your third sentence removes a chunk of credibility seeing as they're now paid over four seasons.

Impossible to argue that this would be a bad move given his wage. If he was taking home a sensible wage packet i'd be hoping for him to stay. At the moment i can't see why he would a) move to the Ukraine when he's been vocal about wanting to stay in England and b) why he'd want to take a wage cut or another club would take on his demands.

I'll be taking this one with a pinch of salt,

More than 6000 killed in Eastern Ukraine in the last year, I bet the stadiums are full and he and his family can't wait.

I'm sure there's going to be a warm welcome for another Russian in Eastern Ukraine.

As a player Id like to keep but we cannot justify the wages he's on unfortunately. Would be great to see him team up with someone with a bit of pace beside.

Either way he'll be forever known as the man who set up our Wembley goal.

Russian moving to Ukraine, he'd be madder than Dave-Royal if he even considers a move there.

It really bugs me that people cant see how actually how good he is, and how much he gives the team.

He may not score 15+ goals a season but makes up for it workrate.

You cant say he's crap and have a go at him because he earns 60k a week, thats not his fault.

If he was sold then who does that leave us with up top?? No-one with half the presence he has, and sure to be no-one with half the technical ability he has.

He would be missed more than many of you on this board realise!!

I'm a massive Pog fan, but if somebody wants him it's clearly a no brainer to let him go. I'll be surprised if anybody is willing to splash the kind of wages he's on here though, and I always thought he enjoyed playing in England.

Would be nice to see a bit of a change up top though... but then again I'm not overly confident he would be replaced with anybody half decent. Maybe it would free up enough cash for us to bring Mackie in permanent.

I am a big Pog fan too, but the bigger picture it makes much more sense letting him go than it does keeping him. If his wages (when appearance fee etc) is added on and its in the region of 35-55k a week, think how much the club will save moving him on, and where better that wages could be spent. In championship terms that could be 4/5 players weekly wages.

will be sad to see him go, even more so knowing we never really got the best out of him. But this could be very good for the club

Being happy that he might be leaving != thinking he's crap.

I can see the hard work he does and he's a good player, much like how Heskey always got in the England squad, he didn't score but he brought others into the game and that works with 2 up top, during his time here all 3 managers have favoured a 1 up top approach with him as the main outlet and in those situations, if he's not scoring then he's not contributing enough, especially when he's on 30k/week.

By off-loading Pog, we would be able to make further efforts to rebuild the squad that we could have only imagined happening next Summer. Look at Pog's stats, 7 goals in the league as our main striker, it's not good enough, for all the work he does, it doesn't matter if he and the team aren't scoring.
