Glenn Murray to Reading?

by Glen Littles Nose » 30 Jul 2015 21:09

With Palace now about to sign Connor Wickham I hope we will move for him, loan or permanent.

Very much my thoughts that the Murray to Reading would be resurected with Palace signing both Bamford and Wickham.

Surely Orlando Sa was brought in to fill that role.

The other strikers we have been sniffing about are of a different ilk - Beric, Donaldson.

If we plan to win games by hoofing the ball as high as possible and hoping one of the big men can make meaningful contact with it, then fair enough.

Otherwise, we'd be better served bringing in a striker with a bit of guile or pace.

32 in September - Please don't spend a lot of money, OR give him a long contract! Past his best.

If he goes anywhere, it'll be Bournemouth.

Not for me.

We have signed Sa presumably to battle with Pogrebnyak to be the first-choice lone striker, with Cox and Samuel being the back up options. Bear in mind that we also have attacking wide players and aren't likely to be playing 4-4-2, I don't think this is the type of player we'll be looking at.

He also finished last season well, and one of the promoted clubs might be looking at him.

I'd rather take a punt on Fraser Campbell, Murray was popular with pardew and will be kept for back up, but a cheeky 1 million bid for Campbell May get him off there books and solve our problem

He's a 20 goal striker who Clarke already tried to sign once. Of course Clarke would be interested, finances permitting.

MoorgateRoyal Not for me.

By all accounts, Sa isn't very good as a lone striker (and nor is Cox). I think he's probably be signed as a partner for Pogrebnyak.

It's well established we're after more strikers, and we're no longer quite so flush with central midfielders (this summer it has been four out, one in, and potentially Kuhl out on loan), so 4-4-2 looks like a likely formation. Murray could work well with any of our current strikers and he would also fit well with our wingers.

My reservation is his age, but given how well Jason Roberts did here (not to mention Jimmy Quinn), I don't want to write him off. As long as we don't give a 3 year contract...

Fraizer Campbell has a lot of potential, but he's not nearly as reliable as Murray. He had a good season with Hull eight years ago, and a good half season at Cardiff three years ago, other than that he's struggled for goals. If we got the best out of him then great, but we probably wouldn't.

You'd think if Murray had the choice of us or Bournemouth then right now he'd opt for retirement on the South Coast.
And if he did come to us you would imagine he would either want the same money he is getting at Palace, or a longer contract. Neither of which seem especially likely.

No chance of this happening if he has the chance to go to Bournemouth.

This except I don't think he'd work well with Pog and I don't think we have a sniff as long as Bournemouth are interested.
