RUMOUR - Javier matilla

by lightning strikes » 16 Jan 2016 11:10

According to AS sports newspaper in spain we are signing this bloke. 27 year old centre midfielder from Betis. Not played in ages due to a knee injury, to the extent that he doesn't even have a squad number this season.

Given Brian has just said he doesn't want Sidwell as we have loads of midfielders this seems unlikely, but it's quite a weird rumour for a Spanish paper to make up.

Indeed! Completely unremarkable player from what I can see, 1 goal in 52 apps for Betis and before that just 14 apps for Villarreal (but did play a shedload for Villarreal B)

Presumably he can speak reasonable English and we need an interpreter/bestest friend in the whole wide world for Hurtado (esp. with Sa going to AEK) and Fernandez is not rated by BM

According to Transfermarkt he's without a club?

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say this isn't going to happen.

Translated: Midfielder Javier Matilla is since yesterday in Reading (England), where is undergoing a thorough medical examinations prior to a possible signing with the whole of the Football League Championship.

Still, the agreement is not yet closed and former Real Betis player is open to other alternatives that could occur.

Seems legit...? :?

would the 24 clubs just take it in turns to have him play for them?

This seems an odd one. He was promising as an under-21 but has had a lot
of injuries, played a lot of reserve league football and been released.

Maybe Brian spotted him and thinks he can make a come-back?

Or just the new translator for Hurtado once Sa leaves?

Can't see any logic in this whatsoever, we already have more midfielders than most clubs and a far larger squad than necessary so why on earth bother with another one ?

Anyone twitted Charles Watts to see if he knows anything?

Maybe they realise theyre losing some midfielders in the summer, in sales and loans ending, and they want to get a head start on the rebuild

The season he played for Murcia in the second division, he banged in a load of goals and became known as Señor Siggy.

Charles Watts Spanish midfielder Javier Matilla is currently training with Reading.

The 27-year-old has been in England for more than a week and is staying at the Madejski Stadium hotel. He watched Saturday's 1-1 draw with Sheffield Wednesday from the stands.

He has been linking up with the first-team at Hogwood Park and has even played in a behind closed doors friendly as Royals weigh up a potential move.

Matilla is currently a free agent having come to an agreement with Real Betis to terminate his contract early.

The central midfielder is just returning from a year on the sidelines with a cruciate knee injury. He has not played a competitive game since January last year - a 3-1 win for Betis against Tenerife.

Last season he made 16 appearances for the Spanish side, scoring one goal. He joined Betis in 2011 from Villareal and spent a season-long loan with Murcia during the 2012/13 campaign.

Getreading.co.uk understands a deal is far from guaranteed for Matilla. Reading are using his time here to take a close look at him and his fitness levels before deciding whether to take things further.

As he is a free agent he would not need to be signed before next Monday's transfer deadline.
