If we sign Matilla I think that would have to go down as the oddest RFC signing ever (and that is saying a lot). We already had arguably too many CM players before we added Evans. I can understand that signing as he is a young player signed for free on a long contract. There is very little downside risk.

But Matilla is an injury prone older player who is very unlikely to be ahead of Norwood, Williams, Quinn, Tish, Evans, Fernandez and possibly even Kuhl (who one can only assume has no future if this signing is made). Obviously Fernandez and Kuhl could well be gone by summer but that would still eave us with 5 good options.

So unless we plan to sell both of Norwood and Williams by the end of Jan I cannot see the point of this at all.

Nothing wrong with letting him train with us and seeing if he's better than what we've got.

only read in one article that he had a cruciate injury last season, aside from that it didn't mention any others. Injury wise, what's the deal here making him 'injury prone'?

also, how on earth would you know whether he would be ahead or behind these other players in the pecking order?

someone offering to train for free with us to prove he can improve the team in a position that we think we are likely to lose numbers in the summer. All seems pretty positive to me.

Kuhl could be off
Fernandez is unlikely to sign
Norwood may be off if we fail to make the play offs

No harm in taking a look at someone in training!

What about that time in January 1896 when we had 6 strikers but decided to sign another one?

Rather than focus on how many midfielders we've already got, in terms of type of midfielder do we have a genuine attacking midfielder (for next season)?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojipEDJrZLk

For next season I really like Kuhl but is too similar to Norwood so won't get a game.
Fernández will be off
Piazon will be off

so we could have:
Tish
Norwood
Williams
Quinn
Matilla
Evans

Does seem like maybe one too many, although i can see Williams going to trim the wage bill. Don't see why people think Norwood may get bought, agree he's our best midfielder but needs to have the team built around him and don't see him as good enough to do that for a better team. Maybe Matilla can also do a job cutting in from the left wing.

Hopefully can come in and shake up the midfield.

Apparently meant to be quite useful and highly rated (good at set pieces and can hit decent long passes quickly), the problem is that he appears to be rather injury prone.

I sense a 6 month "pay as you play" contract coming on.

I can't see the reasoning for this unless Norwood is on his way. Trial this week and if for any reason Norwood moves, we sign him. If Norwood stays we don't.

Guess Norwood isn't an AM - doesn't score enough goals.

Only because we play him so deep. Easily has the shooting range and ability to pick up a few more if we played him further up the field.
