A rant rumour. Apparently a load of PL clubs are monitoring Richards as his contract expires next year, and were negotiating a new deal atm. Now he may sign and we're all happy, but how did we get to this situation? His promise was clear and he did enough last season to earn an extension. Why do we keep letting this happen? Losing Loader for free was disappointing, but this would be another level.

Whilst we're at his, open negotiations with McIntyre too and get Olise on a 4 year deal.

While I would expect there to be PL interest, some of the talk may well be down to agent “noise” to get Reading into action.

I guess the counter argument is Liam Kelly, who we offered a bit 4 year deal after 1 decent season and only managed to flog off for free because Stam was an absolute mug for Feyenoord.

But Richards has been around the squad for 3 years and should have been a priority after we lost Blackett and Obita IMO (though Sutekh may be right that it's agent noise).

Similarly, I think we know enough about McIntyre and Southwood to offer 2-3 year deals, while Olise has a contract expiring in 2022 meaning we could be fielding low ball offers way below his value next summer.

Yep. Keeping his options open and seeing which clubs take an interest in him. He will know that if he signs a new 4 year deal he becomes way less attractive to other clubs due to the increased cost to buy him.

I always think of Sidwell in these situations. He signed for Chelsea, not because he was amaze balls (he was great for us) but was never going to break into their first 11.

Fake, but still well connected, journo Courtney Friday is reporting new contract negotiations advancing very well and all indications at the moment are that he will sign
