Stranded Oh I agree that a striker becomes priority, so I think Hutchinson goes away at that point and if we want a more attack minded midfielder we see who is still out there on a free. Loum will soon be first name on the teamsheet, so a 6th loan likely comes down to Fornah or Hendrick, so are both starting to look decent - only plus is it may help us rest Hendrick on occasion.

Also if we do sign a free agent midfielder then at least we have one for next season, as currently, we'll have no midfield next year. I know long term planning isn't a massive part of this season but we have given out contracts that will give us a nucleus of a team next year but would be could to have a central midfielder under contract for next year. Not sure who is out there though, or what happened to the guy who came over from France for a trial.

Once again it comes down to if we sell Joao - next season we could think about making a few of these loans permanent. Loum for £4m as its in the deal we got, cant see Hendricks costing much and Fornah (who knows how much), it does set us up in the long term. Add in Puscas gone, basically clearing at the very least 1.5m a year off the wages budget with an actaul transfer kitty. Something we haven't had in since we bought those 2 in.

Whats Andy Carrol up to?

Scutterbucketz Absolutely staggered that there’s a proportion of Reading fans who dont think Joao is absolute class. :|

He’d be a massive loss if he goes.

You have to wonder about the issue of black players being much more likely to be labelled lazy or disruptive, don't you.

@stranded, if you're looking at which of the midfield 3 get dropped for a different loanee the answer right mow can only be Hendrick.

No one is doubting his ability though. He can be the best striker in the league and he was when we had Olise / Swift / Ejaria on form and linking up with him.
Just being realistic and not blinkered of the situation are we in.

No you don't have to worry about an issue with black players being labelled lazy. If Joao had shown half the willingness of Loum or Fornah or indeed Yiadom and Hoilett we would not be having this debate about him.
Why do feel the need to bring race into it?

If anyone calls Yiadom lazy they’d need a serious talking to

Not sure Joao is lazy as such, just can look very disinterested. Didn’t Ince make some comments end of last season about getting him to work harder off the ball or something?

As mentioned he did it vs Blackburn - harried and chased down. He certainly can do it. He didn’t look right on Saturday, started well but then just struggled to contribute. Maybe not quite fit still

No idea why race has to be brought into this. Seems like shit stirring.

Joao is not lazy, its just not his game to chase and run down defenders OR he has not been asked to chase them down previously.
Blackburn, he was fresh legs against a team that ran ragged - he smelt blood.
Middleborough, players who had been on all game plus full 90 mins against Blackburn were just out running him, he was way off what was required by stretching the defence and making them defend deeper. Tince, Hoilet, Fornah Loum Yaidom picked up the slack which is not fair. If he was not fit enough he shouldn't be on the pitch.

If we are adopting a high intensity game it involves everyone to be running there asses off for the entire game. If one player doesn't do it the whole system fails.

It’s been a common theme over a number of years where black players are called lazy. Ian isn’t bringing race into it, he’s just highlighting the stereotype that seems to gets used more for black players than white.

Type in lazy black player into google and see pages and pages on this.

Because its well established that black players are more often slated for being lazy than white players.

And there's no justifiable reason for complaining about Joao being lazy and disruptive when he contributes something like a goal every other game, and as Hound said, no one complains about him being lazy when he scores.

You could be lazy and disruptive while still contributing a goal every other game.

There was a period two years ago when Joao threw various strops round about the same time Olise was as well, and RIchards downed tools. These three players all being stroppy / not trying much (i think Olise always tried but was stroppy, i think Richards stopped trying but wasnt stroppy, i think Joao was both stroppy and stopped trying).

However that was 18 months ago now. But still, negative impressions once formed do tend to stick.

Indeed, And probably still quite worried about overdoing things and getting injured again. Quite frankly I'd prefer not to see him busting a gut continually trying to chase things down until he's back to full fitness.

windermereROYAL Well if Blackburn think that clown BBD is worth more than £10m that`s where we should be starting from.

Not with less than a year left on his contract. We'd be lucky to get £3m.

That’s debateable at best.
If a club thinks they need Joao now then the time remaining on his contract is irrelevant. No point saying ‘we’ll get him for nothing next year’ If you need his goals to get promoted / avoid relegation this year.....

Agree with this. If WBA want Joao and believe he can help them get back to the Premiership they might be prepared to pay more money. It’s a gamble for sure but clubs can do desperate things trying to get back to the promised land.

Particularly as they have Gourlay there as well.

And then there's Aluko.

I remember him being called a lazy shit waste of space.

Now who might have said that?

Stranded
Nameless One or more of the loan signings could be turned into permanent deals….
For various reasons Loum and Fornah wouldn’t seem likely. Hendrick would possibly be an option but wages might be an issue but Lumley could be possible, he doesn’t seem to have a future at Boro.

Not this season if they cost money. Loum and Fornah are out for sure - though may be available next summer - Fornah will be if Forest stay up. So we would be asking for the loaning club to let one of Hendrik or Lumley go for free. If that was viable, I imagine it would have happened, especially with Lumley being out of contract next summer.

Situation may well change in Jan but can't see that happening until then (I know a loan can become permanent at any time of course).

We’d also have to ask Hendrick to take a big wage cut.

If we insist that Newcastle let him join for free and they pay him the remaining 2 years of his contract in full then there should be no Issue.
This stuff isn’t hard you know… 8)
