Snowflake Royal And he and Carroll can share the zimmerframe between spells on the treatment table I guess.

How often has Carroll been injured for us?

The question isn't how often has Carroll been injured for us, but how often will Carroll be injured for us.

Well based on the last 2 years hopefully not that much

Actually missing large chunks earlier in his career might possibly mean he can keep going a bit longer

Sutekh Reckon some of the Soton released names could find their way to Reading if Monica gets his Barclaycard

Other than Theo Walcott and Mohammed Elyououssi, the Saints released

Goran Babic
Sam Bellis
Matthew Hall
Zuriel Otseh-Taiwo
Leon Pambou
Fedel Ross-Lang
Jak Stewart
Will Tizzard
Jack Turner
Caleb Watts

Anyone know anything about any of those players?

I guess another question is what other connections does he have at his previous clubs before Southampton or in Spain?

Quite an interesting* article here on his backgroud: https://thetilehurstend.sbnation.com/20 ... -fc-royals

What I'm getting from that is that he's the Gomes of assistant managers.

“Ralph is a coach that likes to be active with his team. Likes to defend really, really high. Likes to have a good defensive system to press high, to get the back four far away from the goalkeeper, to press the opponent, to get the ball back as quick as possible, so I would say we have a lot of common points with our philosophy.”

Good luck with that with our Centre backs.

Jordan Ibe is on trial at Chesterfield. He's fallen a long way! Could have been worth him doing that with us to see if he can do a job, he grew up pretty locally

We're linked with him every season and every season he goes to someone else and does nothing.

This. Linked in 2020 I think but he went to Derby and made 1 appearance then joined some Turkish club on a 3 year deal but left after 3 months and no appearances. Would suggest he sounds a perfect fit for Reading.

Clearly the lure of playing with Will Grigg is too much and I, for one, can not blame him.

Would rather we avoid looking to sign players who are being looked at by sides in the Conference and seemingly going backwards.

Not so bothered about players like Carroll and Walcott who were at a higher level before moving down to us for a season or two or whatever it may be.

He's had some severe mental health problems which has stalled his career. The risk is that we'll see a recurrence of that but he's clearly got talent, could be a shrewd league one signing. Not exactly old for a footballer either.

We have no capacity to carry high risk punts.

Absolutely not the sort of signingwe should consider.

I’m not saying we should be looking at Ibe - we shouldn’t - but it wouldn’t be high risk if it was short term contract etc

We probably can afford a couple of punts - just as long as it’s on max 1 year deals

I think we can't really afford anything but a small squad. Meaning everyone has to pull their weight. And Ibe is the sort that if it doesn't work out, you don’t want him near your squad.

I'm all in favour of some on the up punts that if they don’t come off this year can still work hard and maybe deliver in the future.

Just not players who had a future and are falling like a stone because it fell apart.

A player I was very keen on us signing is Alfie May. Looks like he is going to go down to League 2 and sign for Gillingham. He is far too good for League 2, missed opportunity for us.

Plymouth are considering a move for out-of-contract Shrewsbury defender Matthew Pennington as they look to bolster their squad. Portsmouth remain favourites to sign Pennington with League One clubs including Reading also keen.

Gone to Bogpool.

JLow has tweeted about a couple of 19 year olds we are trying to loan in

Harvey Blair at Liverpool
Abu Kamara at Norwich

Also Sam Bellis at Soton in a separate link. And Walcott offered a contract

Wiki blogs on these two chaps (they're both attacking players)

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harvey_Blair
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abu_Kam ... _born_2003)

Can't find anything on Sam Bellis

Yeah I was confused at that too, started following again in case he ironically has more club sources after leaving his role.

Harvey Blair is massively rated at Liverpool, if he develops as they hope he will be around the first team within a couple of years - this would be a fantastic coup as, if he performs, he is streets ahead of any of our lads - and that is no slight on them.

Never heard of the Norwich lad.

I have. One of my STH Norwich mates reckons he runs around like a headless chicken with no particular positional sense.
