paddy20 think we only have a slightly stronger side than last season. Williams may be a bit of a journeyman player and whilst Drenthe could be exciting he may well be very unpredictable with brilliant games interspersed with nowhere to be seen games. Bridge is a sound signing. If we lose a couple of our best players we may well be a weaker side. Dont share the positivity yet.

I think you are grossly underplaying how good these players are. Why? I am not sure tbf, tbh. I can say without reservation that the addition of the three above mentioned players has resulted in us having a much stronger team than we had heading into last season. And there still will probably be an addition or two to come this summer (possibly Hooper or Lambert or who knows?). LOL! Bridge a "solid signing"? It is the biggest signing in the history of the club. Is this a English/Reading FC fan cynicism thingy? What would it take you to get excited? Only if we sign Rooney, Messi and Bale?

Additionally we have a re-motivated Guthrie who was given little chance under BM...a very promising Obita who was given no chance under BM....added to the new signings...a much stronger squad

I actually am starting to believe if we had this squad in the Prem last season, we'd still be there.

I disagree with Bridge being the clubs biggest signing ever. Think Drenthe was (until Adkins pulls out another rabbit)

I can only see Williams being a back up. If we manage to keep all our players and add a a good quality CF I do think we have a stronger team. We all know what can happen in the last week in August though and if we lose Pog, Le Fondre and Macarthy with a replacement of say Sharp we will be weaker. Its hard to keep players if they are offered premiership football. All I'm saying is at this stage we dont know if we will be stronger or weaker

Would be surprised if Williams were only a back up...I'd see him as first choice in a pairing with Guthrie in centre midfield..Karacan would be the back up ...of course that dependant on whether anymore midfielders are brought in..

Frankly I think that is what he will be eventually after we find Karacan is the better player given his new role

Karacan looks to have impressed in pre-season and I think its his position to lose now. If you told me he would become a deep lying playmaker a few years ago I would have laughed in your face.

LATEST TRANSFER GOSSIP
Reading could be ready to launch a bid to sign Southampton striker Rickie Lambert, reports the Reading Chronicle.

Royals boss Nigel Adkins is believed to be preparing a bid for the 31-year-old who played under him at St Mary's.

The Beeb have picked it up, done deal.

Have the Chronicle actually ever got a transfer prediction right?

I remember them saying we were buying Hooper not so long ago............

Reading may or may not consider contemplating whether they could possibly think about wondering if they should deliberate over excogitating the option of making a bid for Rickie Lambert.

This is not happening. Southampton have very little chance of signing Damiao who is reportedly about to join Zenit. Even if he didn't join Zenit rumours are that Spurs would land him.

I just don't see the appeal for him other than playing for Adkins again. If he was a couple of years younger, then maybe, but he's got 1-2 years at most as a top striker left. There's plenty of time to drop the leagues after that. He needs to cash in on his excellent goal-haul from last year and land a big juicy 2 year contract with a mid table prem club.
