Barry the bird boggler Apparently Marcus Williams can play in that role as well, if needed.

Really?

Hope we go in for him in the summer at least, could quite easily do a job for us for many years at LB

Wouldn't be surprised if Todgers goes in for him

I'll have to hunt him down to yell at him if he goes to Preston, brilliant players and horrible teams should never go together

roadrunner
TBM I dont often agree with Jay.....but 'greed

Well you haven't agreed with him on this occasion either.

We certainly need to look at this position again in the summer. Williams might come on and improve, as Cummings has at right back, or he'll have to go, Harte might not have the legs and also not want to sit on the bench, Armstrong has his injury concerns. But for now we're alright.

Was Harte a 2 Year Contract? I think so?
Williams? Probably.

So both a year to go.

How about Stretch? if his contract is up (dunno) this season, are we likely to let him go? Presume yes?

I'd imagine he'll sign for one of the promoted teams this summer, or perhaps one of the lower to mid survivors in this years Premiership. Can't really see him staying with Chelsea unless he gets a Premiership loan this season.

I'd love to have him back here though.

Williams 3 year contract
Harte 2 year contract
Armstrong contract expires at the end of season. Think we might offer him another year if he stays major injury free until the end of season.

Can't see it Andrew. He won't be cheap on wages and if we have Harte then it's two of the same player really. We'll have to get rid of one of the three and Armstrong, at his age, with his injury record and with his contract running out it's a bit of a no brainer unless we can get someone to take Harte or Williams off our hands.

Ryan Bertrand!

by NR_Royal » 31 Jan 2011 12:45

He's available again since his loan expired. Oh how I'd love to see him back in our team and he was young and hungry, so McDermott likes him...

WHY?

We already have 3 left backs!!! TEAM FULL OF LEFT BACKS...JUST A TEAM FULL OF LEFT BACKS!!!

Also, I think he went back to Chelsea early with an injury...

But you would then have 4 left backs on the wage bill...and for this reason alone...it will never happen...

I know it wont happen, just pointing out he would be alot better than Harte. Hopefully we can ship Williams off in the summer

But not sufficiently better to justify paying his wage on top of the other three. 4 left backs is a ludicrous number and would be appalling club management. If we can ship a couple in the summer I'd welcome him back though.

I can see Williams leaving at the end of the season; Harte will only have a Year left on his contract whilst Stretch IF he can get back to full fitness is another asset. However, both Harte and Stretch are short term solutions.

Unless we have someone ready to step up from the reserves/youth team (which I doubt) then I can well imagine we will be in the market for a left back in the Summer.

Obviously, it will depend upon which Division we are in, but assuming we are still in the Championship, it is unlikely that Bertrand would want to come here again at this stage of his career; he has to be looking at regular first team, Premiership football next season if his career is going to go anywhere.
