UpThePrem Theres always the next window when he's worth £15M

He's out of contract in the summer - so i doubt it

Woah woah woah, lets take a step back here. This thread has made 58 pages on the basis of the possibility of us paying £8m for a guy that will be available on a free in the summer? Fcuking hell this is stupid. Not a chance.

From the beeb

READING LATEST

Reading have confirmed that they failed with a club-record bid tonight.

Director of Football Nick Hammond said: "We have been working throughout the day on one last record deal to bring a player to the club but it hasn't come to fruition.

"We've made four very good signings in this window and you can see that the players we've brought in have already made an impact."

It was heavily rumoured that they were in the market for Blackpool winger Thomas Ince...

That negotiations for whoever it was continued all day suggests the demands of the club/player were not outrageous. So you make it happen, you get it done.

Ideal
Ideal
ManchesterRoyals I think this has all been bollocks, we were never going to pay that amount, it was just to let the fans think we would pay big money to be let down at the last min and say at least we tried to sign him

Exactly, it's a carefully engineered publicity stunt designed to appease fasns, and create that "oh, we gave it our best shot" impression.
I'm not falling for it, if we wanted this guy we wouldn't squabble over pocket change, and let's be honest here, a player of this calibre might be the difference between going down and staying up so it makes no sense to be stalling over loose change as staying up is worth tens of millions.

So.. can we all agree that we've been had?
It's the same thing every time. Throw some exciting name out there, bid less than they want, announce that we've bid - which we never normally do, and fail to complete the transfer, then create the false perception that we gave it a real go. Bull shit, this was never going to happen, and it was all done to appease the fans, pacify us.
We were never seriously in for Ince, otherwise this would have not turned out the way it always does when we follow our "appease the fans recipe", I am absolutely livid, I am fuming, zingarevich can FOAD, he has no money and we are no better off than we were with JM alone.

I agree with what you've said except I'm not angry about it. It's the Reading Way!!

Ideal Do you people not realize that you've been dicked around?
We never normally state to the press that we are bidding on anyone, we are just presented with some signing that we didn't expect, like Akpan.
Every time it is time for us to be bamboozled, it is presented to the media like this, and every time it fails for some reason, so it looks like we tried, but it never came through.

You must be really dumb not to realize how this approach differs hugely from our normal transfer approach, and the conclusion to draw from that is that it is all a publicity act put on to pacify the fans.

FFS, this isn't Nazi Germany. Deals don't always happen for any number of reasons.

Why do we need the marquee signing though? Our form of late says to me we might just have enough as we are.

This time last season we were about 10th weren't we? Oh ye of little faith!

Not whilst we're Premier League - next season is when it'll tell, to see if Anton really wants to get us back up or happy to float around the Championship play-off zone
