Just saw that. Watford have accepted a £1.8m offer for him. Tommy Smith is in negotiations with Portsmouth.

We've put Rowan Vine on loan if you want him.

This is the reason RFC do transfer business behind closed doors.

I have no ideas, but after medicals have been passed what happens after that bit? :|

I've just heard that Pompey have had an offer accepted for Smith.

Has anyone mentioned this latest twist in the drama?

Well, it's one of the headlines on SSN - so believe what you like.

How does this work then? If Smith WANTS to come here, doesn't he just refuse to go and see Pompey? If we've already had an offer accepted and conducted a medical do we have any comeback on Watford if he subsequently went to Pompey?

Most players will see premiership football as a good reason to go just about anywhere.

Did he travel to Sheffield to talk to United, or did he just say "no fanks" over the phone?

Well if we must insist on doing transfers on the cheap - 47p down, £100k after 12 apps, £150k after 24 apps and the balance up to £1.8Mill when we get back into the Premiership (because that's likely!!), why are we surprised when a PL club comes in and says here's £1.8M upront?? Another CLASSIC example of RFCskinflintship in operation.

To be fair TS will be back in the Championship if he signs for Pompey anyway!

STILL looking forward to seing Gylfi Sigurdsson and Nicholas Bignall tonight though!! Really weird, but despite the laughable performance of the "management" in the transfer window, and the fact this season is going to be one hard slog, I really look forward to seeing little chinks of light like these two.

Here's hoping the non-footballer's groin fails a few more fitmess tests, so we get to see a bit more of Henry et al.

C'Mon you UURRRRZZZZZ!
