Funny that as the interview doesn't suggest we're 'skint' !

It's pretty standard JM stuff, work within our means, revenue down due to recession etc etc.

His statement that we overspent is revealing. I do not recall our chairman ever using that word before in interviews. Cutting our cloth is one thing but this sounds more fundamental.

This makes the need to move Hunt on even more critical. Brendan may not be able to bring in the players he wants until Hunt goes and cuts the wage bill. He has been assuming this will happen so it must be a concern that there have been no offers.

Didnt the players have to take a 40% cut in wages upon relegation?

25%, but when Hunt signed his new contract, he was given Premiership wages, i.e. a bit more than the contract he was on when we were in the premiership. Added in a 50k signing on fee, Hunt will still be on 100k a month, which is a lot of money being our revenue in the Championsip is £1m.

We have lost some big earners. I would have thought that the big 4 that have left would have cost us between 50 to 75k a week on wages. We need to consolidate and not spend big money in case we do ending up being like Leeds or Southampton

Simon Cox has signed for WBA for, apparently, £1.5m upfront with a further £400k to follow. Apparently we have a 40% sell on clause so thats £600k. Any chance this would be added to help boost an offer for Smith?

No, if you 'go for broke' you have committed everything to achieving a goal. Whether you achieve it or not you would still be broke !

Not too sure about this latest bit of sound bytes from Rodgers. For one thing, how does Rodgers know Smith wants to come to Reading? I hope he hasn't done anything underhand. :|

I prefer this than Steve Coppell. He is being honest and open. I'm getting excited about us bringing in players just by Buck talking about it!

I don't like it, we shouldn't be talking about any players from other clubs. It's unprofessional.

First interview of BR I've watched and I have to say I'm really excited about what he's preaching e.g. passing, different shapes, choosing the most talented players, etc. Let's see what happens on the pitch but I'm very encouraged...

Mention of other players doesn't bother me. I always thought the club was a bit too coy at times. I prefer secrets to be leaked well ahead of time!
