I've always been under the impression that if we spent more than £2.5m on a player we'd do a Portsmouth. Is this not the case?

Lacoste

WTF indeed. Perhaps the money situation isn't as bad as we first feared.

That or the FFP rules have been relaxed OR the sponsorship deal is phenominal.

What's clear though is these owners seem to be the real deal at the moment which is just  considering where we were two weeks ago.

The fact Howe is leading the way for us as well makes me feel safe considering how prudent he is etc. We also spent 250k on a keeper that wont be first choice. If we were hard up we would have just bought one.

I hope Clarke doesn't fukc this up

If this deal does go through, we surely will have a really solid team with a real chance next season of achieving at least the play offs. I know that's easy to say, but the signings we already have aquired seem impressive, added to the existing quality of the remaining first team players, AND the possibility that Beric (who scored 27 goals in 36 games) will join.

As I have said before, the fee isn't too much of an issue with FFP as it spread over the term of the contract. So if he gets a 4 year deal and we have paid £3.4m then we will only be charging £850k per year to the P&L.

Someone on twitter suggested his wages would be £17.7k which would bring his cost to FFP up to £1.75m/yr

Compared to Pog's £1.56m

Of course that 17.7k figure could be a load of tosh, I figured our limit on wages would have been quite a bit lower than that.

He's just taken it from the story published a couple of pages back.

As I mentioned earlier, it says we could double his wages to €25k pw (£17.7k in today's exchange rate) but it's doesn't say that that is on the table.

I don't think the money situation was ever as bad as certain people tried to make out.
And I believe FFP has been relaxed.
Where we were 2 weeks ago was a typical fan panic which had nothing to do with reality.
Where we are now does feels much better place, and I have a feeling it's not where we'll be come the start of the season...

Is the guy who made the claim, no link to an article and I don't really consider assistant editor of the tilehurst end to be the most reliable source.

Let's face it, we know naff all about how much the owners have or haven't got. It bears mentioning that Piempongsant's dad and Taweesuk 'Jack' Srisumrid were Thaksin's point men in the UK during the Thai MCFC tenure so there may be more to it than any of us can even imagine.

If we pulled this transfer off that would be a phenomenal bit of business and we would absolutely be able to compete for promotion next season!

If we do get Beric I'm upping my demands and want a world class left winger ( say Portugese, maybe ex Man Utd) , a German left back and someone with around 80 Argentina caps position immaterial.
Padded seats, West Berks ale throughout the ground and a view of the Himalayas from the back of the North Stand are also essentials
