I hope Howard's transfer won't mean he has to leave Last of the Summer Wine

Brooklyn Royal According to Mirror Football the fee has gone up to £1 million http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Sh ... 42241.html

That article's dated 22nd August and the wording "United are sending midfielder Brian Howard the other way in a deal worth around £1 million" could be read as the total sum involved (ie Harps £800k, Howard £300k).

800k + 300k = 1.1m.

No, it was published at 22:24 on 2 September. Sounds as though Sheffield United were going to buy Harper but may have to take him on loan and sort it out in January. There is an inference that Harper may not be able to play for them yet. Howard was supposed to move the other way but that too maybe on hold.

Latest from the Bracknell/Crowthorne/Sandhurst Times:

Reading are still awaiting ratification from the Football Authority for the £300,000 signing of Brian Howard from Sheffield United.

Howard reportedly agreed terms ahead of the transfer deadline, but the transfer is yet to be sanctioned.

The deal taking the midfielder to Madejski Stadium has nothing to do with James Harper's move in the opposite direction, as both were completed as separate signings.

Howard is no stranger to netting at Madejski Stadium as it was his goal that earned United a 1-0 win over the hosts back in April - a result that severely dented Reading's automatic hopes.

The Winchester-born player had Howard had featured in five of United’s six games this season, but with Harper and Jordan Stewart arriving he was deemed surplus to requirements.

Howard joined United last October on loan from Barnsley and that deal was made permanent the following January.

He was named Barnsley’s player-of-the-year for the 2006-07 season and scored the goal that knocked Liverpool out of the FA Cup at Anfield in 2008.

I note now they quote 300k as opposed to the previous 500k so looks like the previous sums suggested could be right...
