Holmes going for good money, despite being our best CB, wouldn’t be the end of the world, because it would solve the problem of him and McIntyre being too slow to play together effectively and give Tom M more room to progress.

Joao's performance v Utd certainly wouldn't have hurt his chances under the circumstances. No service. Some nice feet. Decent work defensively in our box and chased about defending from the front about the same amount as Carroll.

Yeah I can't see anyone racing after either Holmes or Joao after Saturday's performance, although can imagine in the wider context both would attract interest for different reasons.

Not sure anything will happen with either of them in fairness, not this window anyway (obviously Joao is gone as it stands in July).

So with Casadei signing yesterday, I assuming we'll have a very quiet day today unless one of Joao or Ejaria leave and we are able to move for a free agent/loan or get dispensation to re-use any transfer fee.

Not sure I see either happening, so we'll likely stay as we are now.

Not sure about that personally, although it wouldn't be the worst idea we've ever had.

I do think there is a massive difference in expectation between an academy player with low cost compared to an experienced, quality, well-paid individual who has admittedly underperformed.

I think it's similar to the Rahman/NGW argument. Rahman gets a lot of stick, quite a lot justified, when he's an experienced professional whereas NGW doesn't have that sort of pressure as he's a young, low-cost option with little expectation on his shoulders.

In terms of moving Joao on to get his wages off our books as well as receive even a small fee, that would be a decent bit of business in all fairness, providing we could fill the squad space where necessary. Time's not on our side though.

Not sure why as Ince has favoured experience over youth this season, plus we can only have 5 loan players in a match day squad (assuming loan not signings) and a limit of 25 players (though youngsters may not count towards the limit depending on appearances etc)

Maybe he sees the need for fresh legs, maybe one of the loanees is going back, or maybe he is just unhappy with the general midfield performance and wants something new.

As it stands are midfield options are Fornah, Loum, Hendrick, Casadei & Craig really - 3 who have shown flashes, 1 brand new and 1 who is showing signs of breaking through.

Fornah has been injured and not quite looked good enough. Loum swings from world beating to liability and is only 1 yellow away from a 2 game ban. Hendrick has been a steady eddie but bar QPR has hardly set the world on fire.

Already mentioned it but if we have more loans than we can use then it absolutely breeds competition in the squad. No-one wants to be the loanee that doesn't play, so hopefully, you start to see a new level of performance both in training and on the pitch as if you are in, you know you may easily be sat in the stand the following week.

This. All the loanees will have something to prove - not just to us but to their home club, too, who will be closely watching them. So that effort and enthusiasm and competition for places can only be a good thing - sometimes I get the feeling that some of our regular players are just a little too comfortable and established, so anything to shake them up a bit is a definite positive.
