He's scored nine goals in forty games in the Championship, this season, for Wolves (0.225 goals per game). We have two wingers with a better goal scoring ratio, in the Premier League, than Doyle in the Championship. Remember, these would probably be higher in the Championship. The money could be spent on a better player. The top three Championship goalscorers are listed, along with Doyle, Reading's players and Tom Ince (a Reading target in January) below:

Reading Strike Rates (Premier League), plus others
Murray, Glenn - 0.744
Austin, Charlie - 0.676
Rhodes, Jordan - 0.619
Ince, Tom - 0.429
Le Fondre, Adam - 0.300
Kebe, Jimmy - 0.278
Robson-Kanu, Hal - 0.238
Doyle, Kevin - 0.225
Pogrebnyak, Pavel - 0.200
Morrison, Sean - 0.167
Hunt, Noel - 0.083
Gorkss, Kaspars - 0.077
McCleary, Garath - 0.074
Guthrie, Danny - 0.063
Mariappa, Adrain - 0.038
Leigertwood, Mikele - 0.033
Other Reading Players - 0.000

Adkins represents a break from the past and his signings in the summer will reflect this.

Doyle is probably right in what he has said previously. Whenever has 'going back' - either for player or club - ever worked?

Kebe's our second best striker, excellent.

If Kebe played 38 games, and the goals per game ratio was the same. He would score around 11 goals in the Premier League and around 13 in the Championship. If only...

If Austin is up at the top of the Championship list. Then strikers of quality in the lower leagues are like gold dust. A dearth of real talent.

Kevin Doyle?

30 goals in 146 appearances in all competitions since he joined Wolves?

No thanks.

MeMeMe If Wolves go down, think we should make a cheeky punt to add Mr Doyle back into the ranks.

Thought Doyle was past it if i'm honest, but he's popped up with a few and could be a reasonable target

Silly idea. He is way past his best and he is not an out and out goalscorer. I hope that Roberts gives it another season with us if he recovers from his op. It would be a step backwards for me.

windermere_royal Jordan Rhodes if Blackburn go down would be a better option tbf

Obviously he would be, however Doyle would be on a free and Rhodes would cost at least £7 Million..

And if Rhodes goes anywhere i'm sure it will not be to Reading. Do you actually follow football?

Someone on BBRB yesterday said that McAnuff hadn't scored a league goal for Reading in over 42 games !! That's a p poor return from a winger certainly considering he's been an ever present and on the other wing Kebe has scored 5 from 17 starts

I can't believe some of you mongs are still clinging onto old former players.

Doyle WAS amazing and will never be forgotten but I am afraid NOW he is not.

The sooner the Fans can get out of this mentality the sooner we can move onto a new era of football at Reading. Speaking of which, the only former player that would fit in with that would be Sig but he is way out of our spectrum.

I would take him on a free. Better than Hunt and Roberts. Also he would have the capability of playing lone striker, which we will need assuming POG goes in the summer.

But yeh could see Brian taking him to Leeds.
