No, we were very close to getting Jagielka before he went to Everton though
The opportunity was there as he left Villa for Bolton in the January. We didn't make a move for him though according to Coppell as he didn't see him, or O'Neil and Taylor, as being better options that we already had. Bolton signed Cahil and Taylor and stayed up. We gambled on Kebe and went down.
There was also the efforts to sign Lescott in 2006 (?) before he joined Everton too.

I seem to remember the medical highlighted a few things so we went back in with a lower offer to Wolves and a change of personal terms to the player with more emphasis on appearance based wages, Everton stepped in with an offer close to our original and the rest is history.
I may have dreamed all that though
