loyalroyaldaz Another Danny Williams?

Williams is out of contract at the end of the season isn't he? I'd imagine he's also one of the highest paid players in the squad. If Powers is cheaper and less injury prone then you would have to look at this as a positive move.

Williams is one of our best players at the moment, I would hope the club are looking to keep him on.

I know nothing about Powers but I'd be surprised if he was a better player than Williams. He'd surely be out of the MLS and in Europe already if he was?

Having said that, I'd like him to succeed here and he could end up being better than Williams.

We have to be realistic and accept that Williams might not get a new contract, he is on relatively big money and may be earmarked as one to move on. If we can bring in and integrate a replacement before the summer then it's a positive move.

Fair point.

I'd still like us to keep him, though. Even if only for his strange, campy, Eurovision accent.

If money was no object, he's the first player I'd want to see tied up to a new contract but I think the club will leave it very late to renew. If it looks like we'll be in the Championship next season, I don't think he'll be offered terms.

I know very little about Powers but he's regarded quite highly in America and outside the big names, MLS wages relatively aren't great. If he's good enough, I wouldn't be surprised if £10,000 a week would double his current wages.

I hope Powers does well here and that we get some good mileage out of him. It'd be a shame to lose Williams but maybe one of the benefits of having the Thais on board is that we might offer him an extension?

Powers currently makes $275,000/yr "guaranteed" in MLS. For comparison Kevin Doyle makes $1,170,000 guaranteed

For Powers, that's a decent salary in the MLS for a 24 year old.

So in the region of $5,000 a week, which is closer to £4,000 in proper money.

I know the pound has dropped a bit over recent weeks but that's still a shyte exchange rate!

More like £3,300 per week. That makes him relatively cheap if he is any good.

Would be nice to see a few more goals like this!

Yeah it was a random guess at the exchange rate but kind of emphasises my point that if he's any good, we could offer him £10,000 a week, which is the average wage in the Championship, and he'd be getting a 300% pay rise.

He'll get that when he proves himself and gets into or near the first team though.
There's being 'any good' and there's being first team starter right now, good

Doesn't sound like Powers and Williams are anything alike, aside from being American and midfielders.

Powers sounds like a much better fit than Williams, who is a good player but out of place in a passing team.

Having seen him since he's been part of the Rapids' lineup, I don't think Williams and Powers are the same with maybe the exception of energy. Powers is good with a pass and has enough energy to be that box-to-box midfielder that we want Williams to be. He's also pretty tough. While the Rapids haven't done all that well, he has been a highlight of the squad.

He hasn't been capped at the senior level but Klinsmann is kind of blind to players that haven't had any European experience (even though he hasn't had problems with playing some of the more-senior MLS-only players).

I think he would make a good addition.

Sounds like he's on the way in January after impressing on trial. That's 'another' attacking midfielder..

I always thought Clarke was solid defensively, but he's almost gung-ho in his approach most of the time.

Apparently he's just done his coaching badges as well. Wonder if this was part of the reason Clarke was sacked.
