Doesn't say a lot more in substance here, except they seemed to have extrapolated and now he is buying the whole club!

IFFFFF Reading were to get promoted perhaps more attention would come to us, a partnership that supports our progression in the Prem whilst not causing detriment to AS Monaco.

All in all, has potential and we know he isn't short of a buck or two. If he's buying what was originally Samrit's share that makes sense.

Cautiously happy with the idea in principle.

But we need Kondogbia on loan as part of the deal. McDermott wanted him before.

Actually, maybe this isn't so leftfield.

With our Thai's having close links to the Portuguese leagues, the role of Jorge Mendes in AS Monaco and Pieroj having been involved in high profile investment in clubs and takeovers (e.g. the Sheikh at Man City).

Says in the article that it will be a 20% investment.

I would hope that this deal is money up front, and not reliant on extra investment the season later. That was the issue with Anton was that he had investors who had committed money when we were in the PL, but we got relegated and all the investors pulled out. He bought the club with his own money, but had no more to run the club if we got into problems

Charles Watts says....

From the 'divorce of the century' to the most expensive apartment in New York - Rybolovlev certainly has a colourful background

Reports in France over the weekend state that Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev is close to investing in Reading FC.

French newspaper L’Equipe say Rybolovlev, who is the majority shareholder at Ligue 1 Monaco, is set to buy a 20 per cent stake in Royals.

But who exactly is Rybolovlev? We've taken a closer look.

Dmitry Rybolovlev
Nationality: Russian

Age: 49

Lives: Monaco

Wealth: Forbes state Rybolovlev currently has a net worth of $7.7 billion. He is the 156th richest man in the world and the 14th richest man in Russia.

Children: Two daughters, Ekaterina and Anna.

Marital status: Divorced

How did he make his fortune?

Rybolovlev got his start in business with his father Evgeny in 1990 after studying medicine at the Perm Medical Institute. He set up a company called Magnetics that offered a form of alternative medical treatment using magnetic fields.

In 1992 he opened an investment fund and began buying shares of industrial enterprises.

He consolidated his shares into a controlling stake and in 1995 was named chairman of the board of Uralkali, Russia’s largest producer of potassium fertilizers.

The company listed in London in 2007, raising $1 billion. Rybolovlev sold his stake in Uralkali for $6.5 billion over a nine-month period in 2010 and 2011.

His football interests

Radamel Falcao signed for Monaco from Atletico Madrid in 2013.

In 2011 a trust acting on behalf of Rybolovlev’s daughter, Ekaterina, bought a 66 per cent stake in Monaco. Rybolovlev was subsequently appointed president of the club.

The French side were in Ligue 2 at the time but they soon won the title in May 2013, sparking a summer spending spree which saw Rybolovlev splash out £146 million in just a few months on players such as Radamel Falcao, James Rodríguez, and João Moutinho.

Second and third placed finishes have followed in Ligue 1 for Monaco who also reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League last season - in the last 16 clash over two legs.

Costly divorce

Rybolovlev has recently been through the ‘divorce of the century’ with ex-wife Elana - who first initiated court proceedings in 2008.

In 2014 Elana was awarded $4.5 billion by a court in Geneva, but that was reduced by a Swiss appeals court in June 2015 to $600 million.

Left with a final option of going to the Supreme Court, the pair then announced they had reached an out of court settlement, with the exact figure agreed upon unknown.

Lavish spending

Rybolovlev's daughter owns an apartment overlooking Central Park in New York.

Like most Russian oligarchs, Rybolovlev has not held back from splashing the cash in recent years - with trusts in the name of his daughter Ekaterina making several significant property purchases around the world.

In 2011 a Rybolovlev trust bought what was at the time the most expensive apartment in New York, a Central Park West penthouse, at a cost of £57m.

He also spent £61.5m to buy a Palm Beach house from Donald Trump and £14m to buy a property from actor Will Smith in Hawaii.

In 2013 Rybolovlev purchased the Greek islands Scorpios and Sparti for £108m.

For the record, what are the UEFA rules on investor's/owner's having interests in more than one club across different countries?

I agree. His acquittal on the charge of the contract killing of his business partner in 1996 certainly indicates you are right.

As legit as any post-soviet collapse self-made Russian billionaire can be, I suppose.

This could go one of two ways, either Charlton or Watford, as they both have a shareholder who has interests in other clubs in Europe. Charlton fans are not happy with their owner and want him out. Watford, on the other hand, has seen an improvement in their status, BUT, Watford are the main club in that group of associated clubs. Will Reading be the the main club in a group which includes Monaco? I am sure you can guess who will be top dog while RFC will be second, at the best. I can see this going the Charlton way, I'm afraid.

Monaco are limited by the league they play in and their crowds

If Watford can be the marquee club, why not Reading?

Really? Only two ways? What about it having a little difference in the form of a couple of loans, but generally status quo?
