He looked a hell of a lot better than that American we are supposed to be interested in.

I'd agree with that.

As the other thread has been locked for some strange reason......

If we have made a bid for this guy I expect the asking price has just increased now Ghana have made it to the second round. How mch are we prepared to pay????

Rock of Gibraltar ?

According to the tee-shirt he was wearing under his soccer shirt today !!

Gonna cost a fortune to move that lump up the Atlantic, through the Channel and then up the Thames.

I would love to see Mensah at the club after some impressive World Cup displays.

I won't hold my breath, it's not the most reliable paper as far as I'm concerned

Out of our price range if he keeps the Brazilians at bay. Let's hope he has a 'mare.

Haven't seen the Brazil v Ghana game in full, but Mensah would be a very pleasing signing for me, even at the reported £2 million.

He was unlucky with the header that was saved and wasnt normally tyhe defender at fault when Brazil were springing the off side trap - I hope we get him.

So Daily Star reckons a bid of £2M a week or so ago, now the News of the World has us down for 4.2M. Thats a bit of a leap, but two papers reporting over a couple of weeks different bids for the same player would suggest we're at least interested in him. As far as I know we haven't denied it yet, so sounds promising.

NOTW say £4.2m bid made and player aware and welcomes interest from Premier League. I just don't see us spending that sort of money on one player when we're bitching over paying arguably our best player 18k a week. I hope I'm pleasantly surprised!

It is our misfortune to have been promoted during a World Cup year. Mensah was an unknown at the start of 2006, now it is double your money time after a handful of good performances for Ghana.

A good player but £4m is going to take out most of our additional budget.

Coppell pretty much said we were prepared to pay it for Lescott but he was always going to move to Everton, so why wouldn't we pay it for Mensah? I really hope there is some truth in this very strong rumour

I will be the first to argue that Sidwell is our best player as well Jay

He's our best player since we won me £50 odd quid against Stoke! 8)

Looked pretty good, so did the Yank, but I would probably go for the Ghanain, if we want to be taken seriously as a Prem club we have to spend that sort of money. Obviously for anyone involved in the World Cup who gets thru to the Quarters their fee is going to go up. I think we missed a trick though, if we get Mensah or the Yank we could also had Adie back as a free transfer squad back-up player and help to Wally Downes as defensive coach.
