If there's a clause in his contract (and given when he signed it there most probably is) then there's not a lot we can do if someone matches it. So really not worth worrying about.

Can't argue with that, but the fans will still be spitting blood about this especially if no replacement is signed...and lets face it, time to do this is not exactly on our side.

Exactly. Who is out there?

Kebe prefers left wing so that could be the replacement. Henry steps forward with Karacan also available on the right?

I don't see much in the way of players coming in before deadline. Loans maybe as we can bring them in still.

i was positive hunt was staying as we got in his brother as an incentive to keep him here, but after reading that article it looks all doom and gloom for reading, hopefully its not true. Hunts performing really well at the moment and if he did leave it would be a massive disappointment, all coppells doing at the moment is depleting our squad.
Hunt said a few weeks ago he wants to repay coppell for what he has done for his career, so i'll reckon he'll stay :)

2 months ago this would be treated as a "Yes! Hunt's going!".

He's no where near good enough for Everton.

Going back to the 60s,70s and 80s Everton were always regarded as the classy footballing side from Liverpool whereas Liverpool were the power side that physically dominated teams (plus quite a bit of football ability as well)and ruled the English game.
The thought that they now are even remotely considering paying £5million for the little pixie shows how far they have fallen.
I have some very close Everton fans and they would be less than pleased if this happened whereas I would jump for joy if half of the money were spent on Andy Surman-our chairman would surely also be delighted with a net £2.5 million and our highest earner off the books.
Regrettably it won't happen or at least the second part won't happen.

So you want our best player to go? How odd.

It has always been the case that the fans who never actually watch the team rejoice in belittling its unfashionable but most effective players. Stephen Hunt is our best player because he is our most effective player. He will do a great job wherever he goes. He did fall off the pace drastically after January of last season, but he's returned strongly, and I am frankly terrified at the prospect of Convey being our starting winger for the whole season. Even less appealing is the idea of replacing a quick, energetic worker like Hunt with a slow player like Surman. Surman in the middle of the park, fine. On the left wing, no thanks.

In those days they were known as "The School of Science", due to the quality and intricacy of their football.
As BR2 says, how things have changed, and if this happens; even more so.

Some who take the viewpoint you suggest have been "supporting the team", not just 'watching' for nearly fifty years. At a great deal of expense and also putting in a great deal of mileage.

I suppose there is almost a case for saying that he is now our best player but I would still put him behind Marcus,Harper and Doyle.
IF he is our best player my how far we have fallen.

BTW thank you Tazewell for your back-up-I couldn't recall the correct term for the club housing the fantastic Alec Young and then subsequently the Euro-deprived champions.
Has there ever been a better passing midfield in English football than Ball,Harvey,Kendall?

So you have been going for 50 yars. That still allows you to be a watcher rather than supporter. The point made by JtheJ is totally valid I am afraid.
ps I've been going for 50 years too, and I don't get any delight in the constant belittling of players.

So football is all about energy is it?
Well thanks for the lesson.
Yes I would sooner have a footballing left-sider like Surman or Ledley and in the case of Surman we would have about £2.5 million left over which should ensure that the club doesn't go into liquidation just yet.
I do agree that the thought of Bobby playing there is one of the few reasons why I wouldn't mind Hunt staying.
At the moment our playing staff is starting to look nearer to being a Div 1 side than a Premiership one IMHO and that has nothing to do with belittling little players who shine against Luton but look lost against Charlton regardless of the position they might play in especially when the manager previously said he would be happy to have him play there this season..

I hope he doesn't go, cos I'll have to undertake a major re-shuffle of my fantasy team. He's the only one scoring points for me at the moment (apart from Phillips)

At the end of last season I was a bit disappointed with Hunty. I thought he had played brilliantly until he got his new contract and then seemed to ease off in the latter part of the season.

So far this year, however, he has been back to his best and I think we would really miss him if he goes - please stay Hunty!!

Did you go to Forest or Charlton?
If you did you might think he is worth no more than £500,000 not £5,000,000.
Incidentally wouldn't everybody have preferred it in his interview if he had said that he is totally committed rather than that we will have to see if anybody comes in for him.
If we want to remain a Championship side let's have a team of Hunts but for my season ticket I was hoping for a bit more than energy. If I wanted that I could go and watch cross-country running.
