Then surely they could have loaned him out instead with a 'we'll review it at the end of the season' Reading were by no means 'safe' when Cox went, probably more likely to stay up than go down at the time but not safe. Having said that, he should have been given a chance in the Premiership, why not? Lita hadn't scored, Shane Long..well is Shane Long, Doyle was struggling. The only one finding the net at all was Kitson. Who knows whether he'd have been good enough.

I found it bitterly disappointing at the time and still do that we'd let a lad that had scored regularly for clubs albeit at a lower level, had scored for the reserves in bucketloads go for next to nothing.

This one will prove to be a bigger mistake than any of Tyson/Henderson etc.

Wycombe Royal
Royal Lady Was he asked to stay?

Coppell said we didn't want him to leave and that it was his own choice to accept the Swindon offer.

Half true.

Coppell didn't want him to go but when he demanded a new contract on incredibly unrealistic terms to stay, they had no choice. He did it just to see what he could get out of the club as he knew he wouldn't get into the first team for a year at least. Horses mouth.

bottom left hand corner Just wondering if we have a deal with him if we want to sign him back then we have first approval. As he is doing very well at Swindon after getting a hat-trick today surely we must want him back if Doyle goes in January or end of season.

the main question there is does cox wnat to come back?
he was pretty much forced out of the club as he got no first team chances and was constantly out on loan
the club gave no indication that he was wanted so why would he want to come back now when he is getting opportunities at swindon?

We don't need him.

STFC fans seemed resigned to losing him in January - but they may be a tad over pessimistic.

I can't say I'd be unhappy if he came back and Lita left.

Absolutely spot on mate, we can't blame the club or Coppell for this.

Pierre Joseph-Dubois scored last Saturday. We made a mistake letting him go...

Could've given him more of a chance so as to not force him into wanting to leave.

Coppell has admitted he relied on his trusted players too much last season. If he'd let Cox have the chance his brief appearances for the first team, and consistent form whilst on loan and in the reserves, probably deserved he probably wouldn't have seen the need to move on.

All a bit of a shame really.

True. I suspect that Coppell also wasn't prepared to take the gamble on Cox, as if it failed then the resulting motivational booing could have set his development back quite a way.

I played up front with Simon for Denefield School. Hes an avid Reading fan like myself and I for one want to see him keep banging them in for Swindon.

He'd come back - 100% CERTAIN!

If he's a Reading fan, then why is he playing for the Swindles?

It's called a career.

The way this lad is going, Swindon will want seven figures come January, and I don't think we'd be sniffing at that sort of price if in fact we were interested.

14 goals and 2 hat-tricks is quite something though. Definitely a Championship player soon.

If Doyle and Lita go in Jan, Coxy would definately be an option.
