Thames I know this should be on the Rumours section but no one ever reads it.

Anyway, a friend of mine who works in the ticket office has just seen Robert Koren at Madejski Stadium. Makes perfect sense as he's just been released by West Brom so is the ideal Free transfer that we're looking for.

The downside? Surely midfield is our strongest area...I hope this doesn't mean we're losing Siggy?

Nevertheless, good signing but Koren and Sig in a 5 man midfield would be immense. Let's hope!

Fingers: crossed.

I'm always amazed by these.

I struggle to recognise most of our players if they don't have a shirt with a number on it so how on earth people recognise players from other clubs in non footballing situations I can never understand !

As with all these sort of things a healthy pinch of salt and if it comes true then a hearty round of applause to the one who broke the story.

99% of them sink without trace of course.

Smoking Kills Dancing Doe WBA get promoted and release becuase his wages are so high.

What you reckon?

Mate down the ticket office....

Delete this shite, HobNob? is better than made up threads that clog up most other sites.

Ehhh, cut the guy some slack. For all we know, this may be true. Would be great if he signs for us.

being reported he was on near 30k a week.

Maybe JM's had a massive change of heart. What u think.

I'd love him here. They don't just parade players round for the ticket offic staff to take a look either.

Sorry, my housemate's a Baggies season holder, and when I told him that he LOLed. Koren was on 8k tops. It's well known that WBA pay cheap wages, don't pay transfer fees and send players out, ala Greening and Curtis Davies, on loan-to-buys to avoid being taxed. In short, they're a cost cutting club, with all the money from their yo-yoing going straight to the chairman's pocket.

The idea of them spending 30k a week is laughable, and if he was on 8k and would take a cut, then he'd be a bargain.

Forgive my ignorance but how does that work?

If clubs receive a transfer fee, then they get taxed on it. If clubs receive a loan fee, then they dont. So, with Greening, who was in the last year of his contract, Fulham payed 4 mil to take him on loan for one season, and then gave him a longer contract at the end of the season.

With Curtis Davies, Villa payed WBA an 8mil loan fee for one season, and at the end of that WBA cancelled Davies' contract and Villa signed him to a long term one.

Simples.

Really? That does sound a bit odd - surely every club would be moving players around like this?!

Well yes, but it's considered unethical. Also, WBA take advantage of the fact that the financial year doesnt run alongside the football year...so if a player is out on loan on April the 1st, then they dont appear to be paying their wages and appear to be in a much better position.

Mckail Smith?

The Koren rumour might be true - maybe the club are making a half arsed attempt to placate us after selling Gylfi and Kebe!

Sounds like bollox to me. Fee involved and it's income still, I can't see HMRC making one rule for loans and one for transfers in a sport they have nothing to do with and don't care a lot for.

And I can't see many clubs giving a flying one about ethics. As far they're concerned it's a shit county outside London.

The press seemed to have put it back to £20k today. So prob be £10k tomoz!!

Seriously though £8k is a very small amount, even out top end would be around £16k.

But anyways, players dont get taking round the ticket office or met in the hotel in the stadium.

Training grounds and out of town hotels.

Terrible quoting

Koren wasn't released because of money. He was apparently released because he was subbed late last season and refused to shake the managers hand, and their relationship has deterierated ever since.

Either way, he wont be coming here!
