Don’t know if anyone has mentioned this but Osho has been sent on loan to the Boondocks.Should have tried harder to keep him,far better than Holmes or Estevez.A RB is now a priority signing;I worry Yids has a serious problem and neither Holmes or Estevez fit the bill, while Watson appears to be on his way out.

LightwaterRoyal Academy keepers we've let go off the top of my head

Mikkel Andersen
Jamie Ashdown
Jamie Young
Ben Hamer
Jamie Young
Alex McCarthy
George Legg
Stuart Moore

Only the ones in Bold have either outperformed or at least been on a par with Reading FC.

Jamie Young is playing in the A-League and has spent the last 6 years getting sunned up sharing the pitch with the likes of Alexander Baumjohann, Alessandro Diamanti, Luis Garcia, Markel Susaeta. David Villa and Ola Toivonen so I'd count that as a win.

Long time ago -c2000 - Shaun Allaway who went to Leeds for a big fee and let Ashdown in. Allaway ended up playing for Staines or similar.

BTW Dennis Nelson led Reading to victory on 7 April 1976 with the only goal at, topically, Bournemouth.

If he is that good, why can't he get into the Luton side?

tidus_mi2 Jokull Andresson returns to us after a solid two games in goal on emergency loan to Morecambe, looking at the goalkeeper situation I can honestly see Southwood being released at the end of the season, Andresson and CBC are younger and appear to have greater potential.

Our keeper situation is a bit strange really, we always seem to have some great talent coming through the ranks, but who was our last home grown keeper to break into the first team on a regular basis.
Southwood was meant to be extremly promising and by all accounts had a great loan spell up in Scotland with Hamilton i do believe.
Andreasson looks promising and CBC by all accounts has huge potential.
These keepers need a good run in the first team but they never quite seem to make it and we go and then buy a keeper in or make stupid decisions like that kid from Everton who wasn't up to the task. I would much prefer to give our young keepers a chance rather than loaning young premiership keepers any day.
Rafael is still in his prime i guess, especially as keepers can play till 40yrs no problem, so i guess we will lose one of our prospects in the close season.

Your comments regarding young keepers coming through could equally apply to strikers as there are so few that I can think of over the years and especially in the past 10 years or so.

I do find that aspect a bit odd as we have had quite a number of midfielders and defenders but for some reason they don't come through with us and some have turned up elsewhere such as Charlie Austin and Connor Wickham.

Yeh exactly. "Far better" based on two half decent performances at RB, yet couldn't hold down a regular starting spot at Aldershot or Maidenhead, and now being passed around the lower leagues by Luton.

Wickham left aged around 12 because his dad was posted to a base in Suffolk I believe.
Unwell seems to be getting a few goals in the lower leagues and Harry Cardwell had a decent cup run with Chorley.

As I said, it's odd that so few have come through over many years and yet we seem to produce some decent players in other positions.

Perhaps it’s deliberate ?
not basing this on anything other than speculation but perhaps you can identify youngsters with the talents in other positions more readily can then add more value through coaching. Maybe we have chosen to specialise in these positions and accept we’ll buyin strikers more often ?
From my days in youth football the players who were exceptional strikers at the younger age groups tended to be early developers and their extrapace, power and size made them stand out. Many of the good strikers lost their edge from the age of about 16 as others caught up physically.

Can't think it is deliberate as strikers are generally the most expensive to buy.
All kids want to be strikers and yet we just don't seem to produce them.

Paul Rideout was a big strong lad for his age in youth football around here and Danny Ings was the opposite.
Believe it or not, a very young Jamie Redknapp was a flying machine of a winger and despite being on the frail side played at a couple of years higher age group..

Would be a decent signing for this level.

Presume it would be on loan with a view to a possible permanent move in the summer?

Bit of a concern given Reading’s record of signing 28 year old wingers off of Fulham.

Remember Danny Loader he seems to be finding the net for Porto B team with 7 goals in 15 appearances i believe. Not a bad return and maybe could get a sniff at the first team before to long.
This could prove to be another one that got away lol....

Not so much one that got away, as one who consistently under performed, was outshone by other youth products and wanted away.

Loader leaving meant Olise stepped forward. I wish Danny well but his leaving was best for all.
He’s no more ‘one that got away’ than Antonio was. Sometimes players move on.

Did he not also have an excellent scoring record at reserve level here? I see no reason why he'll do better at making the jump to 1st team at Porto, but fair play if he proves me wrong.

Lots of reasons he might, being older might help, lower levels of expectation, team playing formation better suited to his game, playing in a winning team, better team mates, luck.....

I think he's doing well, and really hope he does well. However, and I think I've made this pint before on here, Penalties shouldn't count towards the goalscoring records we judge players by. 4 of his 7 goals were penalties.

Let's celebrate good penalty takers in their own right, but not muddy the goalscorer charts with penalty goals!
