DOYLERSAROYALER subbed after 58 minutes - more embarrassing is that they kept Dindane on and got Smith off - ah well , when things are bad they just get worse - poor old Tommy

Dindane is better than smith, how is it embarrassing they kept him on instead of him? Thats what most people with a brain would do.

The signing of Smith in January would mean that Rodgers was still the manager.

I'll just leave that one out there.

and as said earlier, he would only be sacked if

a) we are not picking up points by Christmas
b) he has lost the dressing room

in answer

a) prior to Palace 10 points from 15 available suggests we are
b) players love him and have full backing

Rodgers is going nowhere and carrying out the brief as set by the top.

We'd get 3.5 years out of Smith at this level.

He's never been a pace player. He's about touch and movement.

Frankly I'd take a 50 yr old Smith over some of our other players....

Isn't it registered to two clubs in a year, so we could take him on loan with a view to signing him in the Summer. It won't happen though as Thorvaldsson plays in the same position.

The whole thing just stinks, can't help but hope they go bust to send a giant kick up the arse to every club in the country to live within their means.

It's a bit harsh on Pompy's fans, they've not done a lot wrong but no doubt they'll rise again just like Accrington, Aldershot et all.

1. Portsmouth will be saved at the last minute like nearly all league clubs
2. Tommy Smith will be back in the Championship next year with Portsmouth helping them maintain their jinx over us

Think you're probably right - agree with previous poster though that a club going bust is what the league really needs to stop clubs thinking that they will be rescued however mismanaged they are.

I don't reckon Pompey will survive. For someone to take over they will have to understand they would need to take a £20m+ hit which may never be paid back to them. £11.7m HMRC, £9m Gaydak and £1.6m Sol Campbell are the figures that I can recall. Add this to the exortionate player wages and other current debt and debt interest, it would be potentially the worst business proposition imaginable. Saying that, stranger things have happened I guess. Also this talk of selling players before March 1st, who would really pay some of the sums they would put on these players heads if by 1st March these players will no longer be contracted to a club, so players signing on fee will possibly be less than Pompey's current firesale prices

I thought that the debt taken on by Abramovich at Chelsea was considerably higher than that - and don't West Ham owe £60million or so; of course, those clubs have higher status and earning power, but still ....

Chelsea have no debt though. All converted to equity. Same us happened to us.

And I think current "owner" Chennai wants his £17 million back.
